Valve, where’s 3.5? =(
Has the author of the article never heard of the term road map?
They’re just quoting Valve. “Road map” is the way Valve framed it, and it’s pretty standard practice for the title of an article to include a quotation, even one as abbreviated as just “road map”
Yes, I am expecting a deck console by 2026
Unfortunately, these articles keep misrepresenting what’s said:
We do think that a Steam Deck 2.0 is necessary. Steam Deck OLED was necessary. We feel like there’s a road map ahead of us.
They feel like there’s a roadmap, which is different from Valve […] has a “road map”.
I know you didn’t make the decision to make a steamdeck 2, but I really really don’t like that you told me this
I know you didn’t make the decision to make a steamdeck 2, but I really really don’t like that you told me this. Like I think you’re technically an asshole, honestly. That’s just what I feel. I know you probably aren’t but I really fucking hate you and I think you should get smacked in the crotch. You didn’t make the steamdeck2 but I hate that you posted this even if you aren’t Gabe
What the fuck are you talking about, genuinely?
Not clickbaity enough, try again!
If they’re committed then so am I. Whenever Sony starts bringing the few fromsoft games it’s holding hostage, I’ll be down to a steamdeck and a switch
The anti cheat lockdown (for games that would otherwise run fine) is not helping the deck……but trying to fit a full blown windows OS on handheld devices in order to be able to play games is not a very comfortable alternative either. I think having a more reasonable and compatible anti cheat system on a very scalable and flexible Linux based OS is a lot more realistic than having Microsoft come up with a scaled down handheld friendly OS that can still run all of the games knowing that it would be cannibalism against it’s own Xbox branch.
There’s plenty of competitive games with anti cheat that work fine on the deck.
I mean, you have heard of counterstrike, overwatch and apex legends right?
The decision for other games to not support the steam deck or Linux via proton deliberately is purely a business decision like making an exclusive for say playstation.
I’d buy it in a minute if I could play FC24 on it without installing windows.
I haven’t played fifa in years but i reckon it would be great on the deck
You can get FIFA 22 to work and it is great on the deck. But EA started add DRM after that preventing it from working on the Steam Deck.
Plot twist: the roadmap doesn’t have a timeline.
As much as I rarely use my steamdeck (I only use it when I am on a trip), I am so thankful it exists. It is probably the biggest thing for Linux in ages. At least for desktop/gaming Linux.
I hope so! I never touched anything except windows until I got my deck but since then I’ve learned to navigate my way and put all emulators and games I want on it. I absolutely love my steam deck! It has made me come back to gaming with a controller. I’ve been gaming with a keyboard and mouse for quite some time on my PC. It’s nice having everything bundled under one system. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever buy another handheld system that’s not from steam. It’s been along time since (never?) we’ve had a handheld that was this versatile.
I gotta unsub from here if this is the kinda bullshit that reaches my front page. Lazy mfks.
I don’t have a Steam Deck but I now purchase games with Linux/Deck compatibility in mind
So Deckard standalone VR is getting postponed? Though IMHO understandable if that had been the case
Now imagine them announcing a Steam Deck 2, exactly 2 weeks before its release when everyone has gotten their hands on SD OLED.
I don’t mind yearly incremental improvements. I waste a lot on my gaming PC. This might actually make it cheaper on the long term - lol.
This is great news. I hope that one day that thing will be better than my PC. Hopefully in a couple of years it can perform at least 60 fps 1080p reasonably.
They will cause it is everything they wanted from a steam machine but did not have the confidence to do.
Steam machines wanted to stop the hardware arms race, since it was killing pc gaming… as it is today. 1200 for a good gaming pc… 2k for a great one. So if they have a console like pc that forces game makers to work on a low end pc, then all great for pc game sales (and steam sales).
