I was the highest bidder of this particular 2018-porsche-718-cayman-s with a bid of $45250, which didn’t meet the reserve, but Cars & Bids reached out with a deal of $48500 + their 2.5% fees and I said the best I could do was $46200 + 2.5% fee considering they cut the fee from 4.5% to 2.5%, but it didn’t quite close the gap and the deal was off.

But the more I think about this the more I question myself should I just buy it at the suggested deal price? This Cayman S does have:

~ quite a bit mileage (I’m neutral about this as I thought I might get a better deal and I don’t have to cherish it as much considering it already has some mileage on it)

- a lot of modification, including exhaust

- meh color, I like exotic colors

- standard upholstery

+ Auto transmission (pls don’t judge me)

+ ventilated seats

+ southern owned

Is it worth reaching out again? It might have been sold anyway? Or do I need to calm down and wait lol.

People voting you down for your statement essentially doesn’t really understand the current market, nor do they understand Porsche. They’re just in love with the badge.

I’d say if you want it but it. You probably won’t find another 718 Cayman S under 55k any time soon

Eh idk about that, the market is cooling fast. The flat-4 cars are not going to be particularly desirable. Normal depreciation would’ve already had these in the 40s.

Unless you really want “this car”, I think you wait. The market has slowed down quite a bit this year, and sellers still think they’re in 2021 market values.

With that said, I wouldn’t wait more than a year. With the full EV model coming out for the 2025 MY, i think all prior Caymans will appreciate going forward.

Not sure all of them will appreciate. The automatic transmission models like this won’t likely go up. The people who believe ICE-model Porsches hold inherent emotional value likely (mostly) also want manual transmissions.

Has the vehicle reposted on ebay or another site? Do some more research i suspect the seller is prob not getting their reserve. You’re still above what a dealer would offer.

And yet, still consistently the highest sale rate of any auction house lol.

It’s a nice looking car and honestly I wouldn’t consider the exhaust a negative. I have a 718 Boxster S and after being underwhelmed by the exhaust I changed it out as well (went with Soul although I originally had ordered an AWE and had to cancel due to the huge build time). The only thing I didn’t like in the car you are looking at was the RaceChip, I’m not a fan of these piggy back systems and fortunately the seller has disabled it. Otherwise as long as you are happy with the options this seems like a good price.

Excessively loud exhaust (which I think this might qualify as one) is a negative to my partner but yeah I agree with rest!

PPF with 49k miles already on it is an interesting choice. Was PDK service and spark plugs done recently? Those are some pricey services on a mid engine car.

Personally, I would drop 10-15k more for a CPO GTS.

If you’ve got the ~$2k that’s short, just get the car. Life’s too short to be dickering about $2k. I guarantee you won’t give a damn about that money in a week when you are zipping around in that car.

I don’t see the market really dropping below $50k for these cars. When the next gen is all EV, either 4 or 6-cylinder variants are going to command a premium.

How long have you been looking? How many have you seriously considered buying? My experience with folks buying cars is that the vast majority of buyers fall int o two categories. Either you are able to wait for the right one and you’ll know when that one comes through and you are satisfied with your purchase. Or, you are high on the ether to buy a Cayman. You’ll find another one in a short period of time that will work for you. Chances are high you’ll give up an option in exchange for another option, but it’ll be okay.

No judgement. Both types are great. You know which one you are. Enjoy! Let us know when you pull the trigger and post pics.

Great comment. I was high to buy my cayman. I wanted manual for sure, and not silver. Just for fun I drove a silver tiptronic S and bought it on the spot. I haven’t ever regretted it. It’s in my garage right now while my Panamera sits in the driveway. I’m going to go down and look at it before I go to sleep.
