Looks like a perfect car for someone in their 50’s that wants a nice driver, but doesn’t care about anything that’s appealing when it comes to the 911.
All you guys sound so old this car is fucking sexy and fast off the line regardless if it’s heavy.
And the Yota boys claiming the LC500 has a better interior is killing me.
Delusion! One thing Lexus ain’t doing is having a nice interior 😂
Its very hard to compete with porsche if you’re going after the enthusiast market. And then when you get to 150-200k you had the Audi R8 and GT3 to compete with. unless you’re a die hard mercedes fan, you’d pick the GT3 or R8 over the equivalent AMG GTR.
It is interesting they kept the AMG GT around and are now marketing it as a lc500 or 8 series competitor. i can’t imagine those cars have high profit margins for the company. they hardly sell any.
R8 is gone, NSX is gone, 570S replacement is a lot more money, and the Vantage is long in tooth, so there is a market opportunity there.
But I think you hit the nail on the head, why move the formula towards two cars that don’t sell very well? Because some customers complained that the GT was too stiff or too loud or something?
i don’t get all the hate i love this lol
ITT: An entire sub forgetting that only 2 sports cars exist today that weigh less than 3k and they’re both slow as shit.
Yes, the GT is HEAVIER but it was never a serious sports car, just a fast GT. you never see these at track days.
What cars are you talking about?
And anyway, heavy cars are only fast on a straight line. As soon as you turn, the “slow as shit” light cars gap them.
Yassified BMW Z4
dawg I can’t even with this article, this is too funny 😭😭
Awesome car even though it no longer has its own platform
Jesus, 4400 lbs for a small 2 seater coupe… also awd only… the previous gen GT is lookin mighty fine right about now
4400
Fun fact… it’s heavier than a Model Y RWD Suv. Or a Model 3 dual motor. Mercedes should be ashamed of themselves but then again the C class weighs 4600lb somehow so this is normal for them
I was gobsmacked when I saw the C63 now weighs more than a Kia Carnival.
What the fuck lmao.
there’s a lady in the infotainment system who can tell jokes
I’m sorry, can I just have a car without all these stupid gimmicks Mercedes keeps throwing in?
And it’s still wild to me that a $150k sports car has an interior that’s so similar to that in a $40k entry level luxury sedan. That giant screen layout really just makes everything look cheap, no matter how nice the materials are around it.
Bro what 40k car looks like this pls list em
I have bought 2 AMG GTs (GTC and now GTR) and I gotta say this is a good “DAILY” GT. It is very clear to me this is a completely different car than the Gen 1 for many reasons.
Mercedes clearly didn’t sell enough Gen 1 GTs to continue the formula of a mid-front engined, RWD, 2 seater. They want to go after the 911 buyers, which is fine, but this is 100% a different car for a different crowd. I can see guys who want an E/S class coupe, LC500, M4, M8 who will love this.
For the “R” version to get me back on board, it’s gonna take a lot of changes lol.
Yeah this car seems like it was made for an entirely different customer than the 1st gen and I suspect MB will find out that it will be very difficult to find enough of those.
The 8 series does not sell very well. Mercedes already has the E class and S class coupes. It just doesn’t seem like the market is asking for another heavy 2+2 GT in that price segment.
I can see where Mercedes probably did their market research on why some of their typical customers may not have bought the first gen GT. But sometimes chasing the people that didn’t like your car is a fool’s errand. They’re certainly not going to win over 911 customers with this car.
Ultimately maybe the big thing here is platform sharing. Maybe MB knows they’ll lose some buyers but this car costed a lot less to develop.
Yup. LC500 and M8 especially.
Most in the market for a 911 want “a pro athlete with a suit on” vs “a well-dressed guy that works out a lot” (LC500).
What gets Porsche drivers going is knowing that they could take their cars to the track…if they wanted to. [whispers] 99.9999% never will.
“Absolutely not. Second, maybe. Or third. Part of me does wish it were edgier—permanently rear-driven, lighter, louder, less insulation between my hands and the road—but, as it sits, this Boy Scout can throw down.”
You just described a 911. I love the first gen AMG GT but didn’t get one because it wasn’t practical for me without a rear seat. I saw spy photos of this and got really excited esp with the addition of a rear seat I thought the rest would be the same or better. I still don’t understand the difference between this an and SL. To me the 911 922 is still perfect, lighter, less digital with that stupid iPad in the middle, and I can get it with rear wheel drive and a manual.
Exactly this. I think it makes for an awesome one car solution for people who don‘t have a family.
Much better daily driver, much worse sports car. For me if I had way too much money it would be perfect.
Also imo it looks fucking amazing - pretty much the best mercedes design since the s coupe.
They want to go after the 911 buyers, which is fine
Hope not with this thing, cause it ain’t happening. Did you mean they wanted to go after with the 1st gen?
After reading it, it says what everybody else been saying about damn near every sports car that’s not the 911. Heavier and less driving feel, no hard buttons. Stuff I don’t particular feel any type of anyway about.
I’d never buy one but car is nice. I’m more of a M8 Competition fan but these are nice.
Could u even afford one?
He likely cannot. You definitely cannot.
Mfer go check my cars 😭 my Maybach costs about the same as all your cars. U gotta do better slow ass cayman
No but I still wouldn’t buy one if I could because they’re not for me. Can you?
Yes I can
I wonder what the distribution of complaints would look like were they restricted to those who actually purchased, new, a car in this class.
(Not referring to you specifically, just Internet car complainers in general, of which I am also one)
I hate this trend of manufacturers making cars heavier and trying to offset it by giving the car more power.
Lightweight cars are so underrated.
F50 GT. 750HP. <1000 kg.
They should’ve just not called this a GT at all. Nobody would be complaining if it was just badged as an SL (which I get it, in their lineup thats basically what this is now), but people who liked the previous gen liked it for reasons that have all been axed from this new one, and there isn’t really a successor to the gen 1 anymore.
SLC or SLS would have worked out fine.
It’s a worse Maserati Granturismo.
