So it’s my friends neighbors car and she never used it, and it’s just sitting there collecting dust for years apparently. It’s a Carrera S from what I can tell from the late 90’s, or maybe I’m wrong, that’s why I’m asking here!

Ok guys what do you recommend I ask her if she could sell it to me. She doesn’t seem to know the value of the Car either. People who’ve actually bought cars please comment, it’s been sitting there for a couple of years.

Ok, so this car could get you $150k+ in good working order. Problem with valuing it is the effort and money you will need to put into reconditioning it. It could have extremely low miles since you said you’ve never seen it move. You would need a PPI on it before anyone could suggest a price.

Here are some recent sales to give you an idea:

I’d offer 10k to start a conversation on that picture alone. Does it have an engine that will impact the rebuild cost. Does she hold the title in her name?

I’d recommend being honest with her. Tell her what it is and that it’s worth quite a bit as-is, or even more if it’s running. Offer to buy it off of her at a price that isn’t fleecing her entirely (if it’s $40k as-is, maybe offer her $25k), and encourage her to also shop it.

If she doesn’t need the money maybe you’ll get a great deal. If she does, at least you’re not scamming her (and you can still bid on it).

Just as a heads up - if you plan to buy it and strike a deal. Assume it will need a chunk of work. If you have a big garage / lift and don’t mind figuring stuff out yourself it’s not the worst. But parts are expensive.

If you want to have a shop do all the work, it can get VERY expensive, VERY fast.

Ask her if she wants to sell it and what she wants for it. If you want to be a really great human you could offer to take the car, get it fixed up and sold & to split the proceeds 50:50. Could be a great way to make $50k-$70k with no up-front cash needed.

        That’s exactly what I’d do.

Unless you have $100k sitting around for purchase and repairs.

I mean if she’s serious and you’re serious do a PPI and give a fair offer. Should be a large discount for sitting in the environment. It’s going to need a lot of work to do right but you can def make money on it assuming it’s not a disaster. Bad karma to low ball though.

Don’t be an asshole about it please. “Doesn’t seem to know the value.” isn’t an excuse to rip anybody off. Since you said “She.” have you considered she’s a widow and that was her husbands car and she can’t part with it. Maybe no kids. So just offering some perspective that you can’t expect everybody to research everything and if she had no intention of parting with it she had no reason to consult anybody prior.
