I love Steam Deck but it seems the majority of my library just isn’t fit for the poor thing. I’m looking to add some games to my list that are especially good on the Deck. Basically the problem I am having is a lot of games do run ok on the deck, but because of the not so great screen they look terrible, or in handheld they perform suboptimal as is to be expected.
Last year I got my system and started downloading some stuff but quickly realized most games are an eyesore and just not fun to play handheld. But then I bought Persona 5 Royal and played the life out of it. I think the reason is partly due to just how engrossing the story is and the visuals are heavily stylized so it doesn’t matter if it is handheld or not. I’m looking for more experiences like that.
Currently I have Disco Elysium that I think matches the criteria and wishlisted Persona 4 Golden, because while it is a bit dated it still mostly holds up, and Octopath Traveller 2. Heavy story games with stylized graphics. I’m also happily waiting for Persona 3 Reload next year. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Since you like P5 Royal :
- Dragon Quest XI (Solid 40fps, turn based JRPG)
- Star Ocean 2 R (From what i’ve seen on youtube, it’s a solid 60 fps. Also JRPG)
- Nier Automata (Solid 45 fps at 10 tdp, super stylish)
- Nier Replicant (Haven’t tried it on deck yet)
- Digimon franchise (Cyber Sleuth, Next Order, Survive)
- Monster Hunter Series ( haven’t tried world/ib on deck, but Rise runs at solid 50 fps 8-9 tdp)
- Indies got a lot of cool stuff as well, like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous
I have Nier, not on steam unfortunately but on PlayStation. I tried it but couldn’t get into it because of how open and bland the early areas are. Does it get more interesting and would it be worth pushing ahead? I’ve heard good things about it which is why I bought it but I just didn’t have a good time right away. Sometimes games are like that for me. I would be willing to give it another chance though.
Blasphemous is on sale right now actually for like $6. I played the demo yesterday but I kept getting a color bars visual bug. If you have played it on deck, is that an issue exclusive to the demo? I can’t find any info on it. Thanks for your suggestions.
The story gets more interesting as you progress, so i think it’s worth it…especially if you like dramatic boss fight.
As for Blasphemous, i haven’t installed it yet (since i’m still busy with Hollow Knight), but based on proton db, it should run without problem.
There is a section in steam that says runs great on steam deck. Also people suggest checking Protondb.com . I personally find games that works well with controller to play well in SD.
I had a blast playing Brotatos this weekend. It was awasome. I also suggest Nine Parchments. That is a hidden gem from creators of Trine and while we mentioned Trine I can recommend that game as well.
