Maddisons now out for a few months, Udogie and Romero out for a bit, City coming up. Ultimately I don’t think they have the squad depth to keep the charge going.

But sure they undoubtedly had a good run but I guess people were right, City are inevitable…

How can you call the first 10 games a title challenge? Last year Arsenal fans were told they not in a title challenge to after Christmas but this year spurs go 10 games unbeaten and it’s a title challenge?

Arsenal was favorite to win until April. Then things turned sour for them in the last 2 months.

Liverpool was neck-on-neck with City (2021-2022) until the last day.

So it’s really really early to call anyon’e title.

But yes, City is favorites and are consistently strong.

And Spurs luck might have run out.

They were never going to challenge but up until recently top 4 seemed like a given for Spurs. People keep talking about how Ange was brave to use those tactics with 9 men but I think it was foolish and stubborn. They could have easily got a point out of that game if they had sat back and played on the counter since Chelsea were dreadful and only got their goals from Spurs leaving themselves wide open. That point could very well mean the difference between top 4 and Europa by the end of the season if they drop more points with key players out and the likes of Newcastle come knocking.

People mocking Spurs but Liverpool and Arsenal are not much better. Who is the replacement for Salah/Saka/VVD/Saliba if they get a long term injury?

There is a reason why they say the title race begins in January.

People don’t forget that last year Saliba was injured.

What people do forget is that Tomiyasu was injured in that very same game.

That meant that Ben White’s replacement at RB was gone. So when he moved to CB, we were left with Partey at RB.

Tomiyasu is a solid backup for BW if no other injuries occur.

Man City sure are a privileged team, aren’t they? The squad depth is such that even if a few key players miss out on a few games, they can sail through it easily. Most of the refereeing errors also coincidentally favor them at times. No wonder, it’s really difficult to beat City in PL.

I mean as a Liverpool fan I never really thought we’d challenge for the title this season, our defensive depth isn’t there, Tsimikas isn’t good enough to cover Robertson and Gomez is a hit and miss. Missing a true 6 is a major issue as well. I think we’re good for top 4 but not a title charge, but our backup to Salah is either moving Jota to the right or Doak or even Szobo from whos played there at Leipzig, but you’re right it won’t be good if we lose Salah to injury.

Last year with saliba, arsenal had to drop to third choice with holding. I think with tomi it could work somewhat decently.

Saka yeah there isn’t really anything. Jesus is the best replacement and then we end up with second choice striker as well

Really with Jesus and Nketiah out, Arsenal doesn’t have a striker at the moment. Yeah Trossard and Havertz can step up but that isn’t their focus

Nobody outside city can really cope if two important players get injured at the same time. Even When Rodri got suspended city lost three on the bounce.

No spurs fan thought we had a title charge. This season is a free hit and even more so now. Honestly id like to see some of the youth players get some minutes. We’ve been kinda shit at doing that since winks.

The replacement for Saliba is Ben White (Tomiyasu at RB and Timber / Zinny at LB).

The replacement for Saka is Trossard/Jesus.

When you’re playing within financial fair play that’s the level of replacement available to you…

The only time city lost the title recently is when they let another team get an early lead that they couldn’t catch. The title race begins in August.

Saliba is obviously huge for us, but I’d be fairly confident in Tomiyasu stepping up. What really fucked us last season is that Tomiyasu got injured in the same game as Saliba.

Nobody’s writing spurs off for top4 and let’s face it probably top 5 this season. You would have to strongly back one of Newcastle (with Europe and intense play style), chelsea or United (both not great) to say spurs aren’t gonna be in the top 4 and nobody is doing that. Newcastle are currently the closest but even then can’t see it unless they drop out of Europe completely

Thr title hype was severely overblown. No one actually believed it outside of some delusional fans. We are really early in a rebuild and it’s going great so far. If you asked me at the beginning of the season, I would have accepted 7th.

We’re 10 games in. Spurs are in the first few months of a rebuild. Nobody expected this level of results this early on.

It ain’t a title challenge until later in the season. Spurs fans are just happy to be watching fun football again.

This is literally what every rival supporter says in this sub. Like United, other teams have injury issues AND other issues that keep them from being legitimate title challengers. Unfortunately for you, United’s issues may be the deepest and most systemic. It’s gonna be a long 4-5 years for United fans.

I’m surprised there was anyone who thought we actually had a title challenge. Including some people within our fanbase.

We were 8th last year. We lost (well, sold) our best player, a legend and one of the absolute best strikers/players in the world. Yes, we did sign a known good in Maddison and it turns out both Vicario and van de Ven are great signings as well. We also know that there is talent in the team (like Sarr, Bissouma), but realistically beating our last year’s result (an improvement) would be… well, an improvement.

I do think that top 4 is a realistic, worthwhile and very difficult goal for this season.

Spurs squad depth was always going to be a challenge. We all knew their players weren’t good enough to challenge for the title but they were absolutely crushing it with Ange’s strategy. City have the best depth and a big reason they always win the league. But down the line Spurs can put in a good challenge. I think players itching for playing time and optimism in the Spurs team can attract some good players in the near future.
