Why is Jerusalem less of a target
80% of settlers as far as I know live in Greater Tel Aviv, it is the economic center of the colony. Jerusalem is less significant politically and economically but important to the settlers symbolically. Jerusalem still has a significant Palestinian population and is sacred to Muslims.
Yeah, Jerusalem is a holy city and home of Al-aqsa Mosque. As I understand it, the city is split. And, up until somewhat recently, the Zionists have lacked the audacity to fully steal if from the Muslims and indigenous peoples, largely due to outside pressures and lack of political capital. The US moving their embassy there was a serious incitement and clear step to full annexation, which is a step toward stealing more West Bank territory.
My guess is that it is because Iran sees all of Jerusalem as part of palistine? so they are trying to keep the palitinian area as free as possible
