Palmer Luckey of Anduril is teaming with Ben Lamm of Colossal Biosciences to launch Warhound, a startup dedicated to genetically engineering and cloning dogs for service in war, police work and first responder work.

Speaking to Wired, Lamm explained that the project was twofold. One part of the project would oversee the genetic engineering and cloning of the ideal dogs for war, and the other would develop tech for them to use on battlefields.

Palmer Luckey is such a loser. He makes absolute bank by selling Oculus to Facebook and then decides with all that money his time is best spent developing weapons to help kill people more efficiently. We need more people like MySpace Tom who, after making a load of money, stepped away and pursued his artistic interests and turns out the guy is a really good photographer.

Palmer Luckey’s partner at Oculus died under mysterious circumstances right before the sale to Facebook.

After selling to facebook he got flack. And then became an open supporter of Trump. He became hated.

My guess is that he’s a narcissist similar to Elon Musk, so him hearing himself called a looser and asshole (like he is) triggers him to be worse. To go “I’ll show him”. To do a nazi salute or you know, engineer dogs for war to oppress people more efficiently. Any supporter of Trump is obviously a psycho with no moral center, but if they also have narcissism and money and power, well it can get much worse.

The likelyhood of him reading comments like this is incredibly low whereas other random people may come across it and not have any idea about how terrible he has shown himself to be. So I think talking about him like this is a net positive.

Edit: I don’t think him getting flack caused him to change to be the person he is today, if anything getting massive amounts of money freed him to be more open about who he truly is inside. Maybe catching flack online also helped him in taking off the mask so to say.

Yeah I agree with both points. Also I read that he was a long term Trump supporter long before he ran for president.

And treating these malignant narcissists with kid gloves is useless I agree. But they are obsessed with their image, with their false ego or mirror image. So he will read how he has seen. This is of course speculation and I’m not a psychologist, but that is what I think happened to Musk. He played this image of a good tech “captain of industry”, then when he got rejected because of his greed and lies he switched to a different persona. And there is no real persona. You can even see similar things with Trump, very far back he was a democrat / liberal, but these malignant narcissists don’t have a real personal.

Not sure how useful any of this is really. In the end we live in the age of monsters. And they are all across the political mainstream spectrum now.

There’s a reason for that. He’s literally a 4chan brony. If you really want to, you could Google Palmer Luckey brony pic and see for yourself. Yes, the picture is real and has been around much longer than AI has existed.

They really are. The hoarding of wealth isn’t seen as the disease that it is.

The ancient Greeks knew greed was one of humanity’s worst traits. Even Lycurgus knew money was a poison of the heart and banned the homoioi (spartan soldiers/equals) from owning money, they could keep goods (like food, bronze, iron, cattle etc).

  • I’m gonna say it, and I don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks.

This motherfucker, and anyone else with the same idea, needs to fucking die. In the most gruesome, painful way whoever manages it can achieve so that it’s a clear fucking warning to the next motherfucker

Sure, them too. But this guy created Anduril Industries to develop non-manned AI drones to kill whoever gets labeled a target by whoever buys his terror machines. This guy is a threat to humanity beyond the pug breeder. He and people with ideas like him deserve to die with much higher priority imo.

So this is awful and stupid, but what I really want to know is what they think they can genetically engineer that can out perform a Belgian malinois for energy and physicality or a bloodhound for scent work. Like working dogs are already incredibly finely tuned through massive breeding programs.

In addition, in the eyes of the law these patented dogs will be legal objects that the company owns, not living beings.

I know the law already lets you do crazy evil shit to the animals you own, especially if you are a corp with money. This will be worse. This will make a factory farm look like a children’s story.

This will be something out of H.R. Giger’s nightmares after Phillip K. Dick spends a week telling him bedtime stories and soothing him in his dreams with Hannibal-Lecter-whispers.

Maybe they think they can combine all those desirable traits in one custom breed quicker than traditional animal husbandry?

A lot of the time you can’t effectively combine them. That is why we have different breeds. Stronger and bigger typically means less stamina and less nimble. Better nose means they get hyper focused on scent and are less effective for other tasks. Even without the ethical issues, I can’t see them building a better dog.

$200,000,000 to get dogs into war who will be killed by some $20 drone with a bomb

If they can make 10,000,000 attack dogs to get blow up by those drones, and somehow avoid having any variable costs, then the dogs will be cheaper than the drones.

      I think that’s within a practical scale.

I can’t think of a reasonable scenario where, even given the drones are in short supply, dogs would be a necessary target over higher priority like the dog handlers. Maybe if you strap a bunch of bombs onto the dogs, but that would be really fucked
