“We, States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), reiterate our continued and unwavering support for the independence, impartiality, and integrity of the ICC,” said a joint declaration by the foreign ministers of Canada, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

…

The eight countries’ statement came after newly announced US sanctions against the ICC.

…

“As staunch supporters of the International Criminal Court (ICC), we express our regret and firm opposition to the announcement of sanctions that the United States intends to impose on the Court.” If implemented, “such sanctions would have a significant impact on the Court’s activities, its staff, and their families,” the text continues, with the ministers reaffirming their commitment “to upholding the rules-based international order and promoting accountability.”

Meanwhile, former ICC judge Navi Pillay wins 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

Navi Pillay, 85, won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday “for her efforts to promote peace and international law”, the Nobel Committee announced.

It came the award hours before the US imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court, the Nobel Committee said in ‌its citation that recognising Pillay underlined the importance of maintaining an organised international order.

If Trump and Netanyahu don’t like you, pretty sure you’re on the right side of the argument.

Trump loves talking about law and order, right up until international law threatens to hold powerful people accountable. Then suddenly the judges become the problem. Sanctioning the ICC while demanding everyone else respect American rules is quite the spectacle: apparently justice is sacred, provided Washington gets to decide who deserves it.

Yes, he shares this behaviour with all dictators it seems. Maybe it’s why he admires Xi Jinping so much as he said some years ago as “he controls 1.4 billion people quite ruthlessly.”

Haven’t these countries also refused to arrest Bibi when he was there? Always easy to say you support something, actions are the hard part

Netanyahu has not visited any of those countries since the arrest warrant has been issued.

He flew in Canadian airspace. Canada could have forced the plane to land. Of course it would have pretty much been considered an act of war by the U.S., so probably good they didn’t.

So Canada gets a pass, but you are holding Europe to a higher standard? Doesn’t the US have the Hague insurrection act? Under current leadership I have little faith they won’t go through with it.

Even then, at least for Germany I’m not holding my breath given how their politics related to this are

Wikipedia is not a source of any kind, neither reliable nor unreliable. Wikipedia is a list of sources with a summarisation of those listed sources.

State has multiple meanings such as in the phrase ‘sovereign state’. It doesn’t just refer to subdivisions of other areas (which I think is what you’re thinking here?)
