As AI-generated musical content gains ground across the music industry, Qobuz, the independent French high-quality streaming and download platform, is now making this information directly visible within its app.

Qobuz now displays a tag alerting users when music has been identified as AI-generated. This added transparency allows users to more easily identify what they are listening to.

60% of streams from tracks identified as AI are currently deemed fraudulent by Qobuz’s anti-fraud systems and are therefore excluded from rights-holders’ royalty payouts

When fraudulent practices are detected, Qobuz applies strict measures: affected streams are excluded from reporting and royalty payments, and the associated content is removed from the catalogue. Qobuz thereby continues its long-standing commitment to fair compensation for artists.

    Moving on from streaming services was one of the better choices I’ve made and I’m happy I did it before all of this AI nonsense.

    I browse for music on RateYourMusic. I give the music a listen using Soulseek. I buy the music through Bandcamp. I see the artist when they come to my town. Recently completed the pipeline for Osees and have Chat Pile and Los Thuthanaka coming up soon.

    It’s a peaceful life.

    Tagging is the bare minimum.

    I don’t care about payouts. If I pay for a streaming service (I do: Apple Music), I don’t care who/how they pay). I do like that they pay more than average, and more than Google and Spotify. But I’m not switching to a service that pays artists more. That costs me the moral superiority to think I have a say in who gets paid what.

    But on the flip side, don’t mourn for what they’re losing in royalties. (I know this community isn’t.) Google is paying them. YouTube is basically the leader of AI music. They’re pushing it on everyone. I think they make one of the tools. I’ve been fooled a couple times. But now I’m seeing that this is a trend that YouTube is pushing, so I generally assume something on YouTube is AI generated unless I know it isn’t.
