What advantage does a 2tb 2242 drive have over a 2tb 2230 drive?
Normally it would seem that the longer m.2 drives are better. But there are more 2230 drives in the market so I could use a 2242 to 2230 adapter and use the 2230 drive

missing context here; 2280 drives are far more cost effective and prevalent while still being compact to the point where it is the most common form factor even in laptops.
you pay a significant premium for a given size going to 2242, and even more so for 2230. I would be interested in getting a 2TB drive for my steam deck which limits me to 2230, but such a drive costs nearly $200 whereas 2280 2TB drives can be had under $70 today.
