I am new to Lemmy so I may be missing some setting, apologies if so.
Using the mobile app on Android. When someone replies to a comment and I tap the bell icon to see messages, I can only see the reply itself, not what it was replying to. When I click on the message it takes me to the thread leaving me to scroll through the entire thread to find the comment and its reply. This is frustrating and time consuming and I often abandon the discussion because I’m not interested in looking for a needle in a haystack. This stifles discussion. It’s confusing because the context of the reply is often lost without it’s parent.
As an example of how it can be done better, in Reddit when you click on a comment it takes you to the thread and filters for only the reply and its parent, with the option to “view all”.
Is there any viable solution to this? I can’t be the only one with this concern.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Lemmy.ca
See? I am so new, I’m still wrapping my head around federation and the software ecosystem.
Lemmy.ca is an instance. Boost, voyager, Mlem, arctic are apps.
I’m a little lost here. The app on my homescreen says lemmy.ca and when I go into android setting and list installed apps it says lemmy.ca.
Do you know where you installed the app from? Or, if you can post a screenshot of the app I can find out which one it is.Edit: Ah, I see you’ve figured it out. :)
I have no idea then. I looked in the play store for an app called lemmy.ca and see nothing, but it brings up a bunch of lemmy apps. Best of luck.
I might have drunkenly downloaded an apk. It’s not on the play store. I’m now on Jerboa, but I’m open to recomendations.
sorry about the delayed response to this, but just to clear out any confusion, we (lemmy.ca) don’t have our own app or apk to download. i’m guessing that you probably just added a home screen shortcut to our website possibly?
anyways, as others have said, there’s a bunch of different lemmy apps for android, there’s a nice overview of them here, and you can filter by various things, etc: https://www.lemmyapps.com/
i would recommend against any of the discontinued apps, however.
I am using Mlem, but it is an iOS only app. If you have not looked at !lemmyapps@lemmy.world you might want to peruse it. When I joined Lemmy I tried basically every app that was released for iOS until I found a couple I liked and started making suggestions and bug reports for them. One died, Memmy, one stole our money, Bean, and one is just right, Mlem.
Hopefully you find an app you like and works how you want it. Do not worry about being new, we all were at one point. You will figure it all out, or fake it enough no one notices.
