Germany’s reunification precedent says this would still be subject to EU Council approval. And even with the Cyprus precedent, Transnistria might make it a tough sale.
EU Council is not blind to the threat Russia poses to Moldova and might also not allow Russia to take Moldova hostage because of Transistria. They might also understand dealing with Russia’s presence in Transnistria will be a lot easier after approval.
Can you provide some source for that?
The Council decided on the step-wise integration of the GDR into the European Economic Community, i.e. two German states would have been part of the EEC, which never happened as it was outpaced by the German unification.
