Another story on the pile of “I’m a middle aged american and France was always the butt of the joke, yet they seem to have their heads on straighter than most places on the planet.”

What, don’t you want someone calling every week telling you that the IRS is going to arrest you for IRA tax fraud?

Yeah they’re also making it illegal to access social media if you’re under 15 so they’re gonna have to enter their ID soon to access most websites. Sooo it doesn’t even start to make it even.

I think kids will be just fine without social media until they’re 15. Especially if it’s a blanket ban of every kid before then. Theres other ways to interact as a kid with your peers.

Its not a problem about the kids. Its about adults having to provide an PII (ID) for social media access.

Yeah, but still getting those calls and the Bundesnetzagentur say ah sorry we can’t do anything.

How about upgrading the infrastructure so you can? It’s been decades.

So the law is there but it doesn’t work per se since there usually is no punishment as faking numbers is trivial or not pursued.

I have both German and old Polish SIM card on my phone. The amount of robocalls I get on the Polish card is nuts compared to what I get on German. Polish is like once a week. On a German phone I get maybe one call per year from someone claiming to do surveys.

Hm I would say average one per month or week, and if the number once was in a phone book, more.

Not saying it’s bad compared internationally! But for being illegal, it still happens often enough.

Of course you can start to discuss from asking where the got the number etc but the best that will happen is them hanging up or cursing at you.

I’ve blocked enough mostly not to be bothered, but can of course see the attempts.

Before the summer I got like 4-5 a day here in France 😵‍💫 There was some rule popping in and it’s way less now, hopefully even less soon 😮‍💨

I get about 20-30 a day and at least half as many leave voicemails. The phone part of my phone is useless and deleting voicemails to keep inbox from overfilling on the rare chance a client needs something has become a chore.

There has got to be a better way.

I’d love this in the US, but we’re ruled by the wealthy assholes here. They have personal assistants to screen their calls.

What is a solicited telemarketing call???

“Why yes, I want someone to call me to pressure me into doing something I don’t actually want to do!”

You buy something or a service and give them the authorization to use your phone number for a later usage.

So the telemarketing will be only with companies you’re previously authorized (think contracts renegotiating, new offer proposals, survey, feedback…)

Business to business sales and calls from vendors that you trust. There’s people that want those, somewhere. Much like there’s non-spam commercial mail.

I welcome France to the ranks of good nations.

And Morocco, if your businesses profited that much from annoying and conning people, punishments like this are well deserved.

I’m not ignoring it. I actually don’t care about the nationality of telephone terrorists. That they build an economy on exploiting people - usually on both ends of the line - and which will falter under new and much needed laws, well, bad luck.

I welcome France to the ranks of good nations.

I’m talking about France’s colonialism obviously. They are not ‘good’.
And neither is Morocco, even without the phone stuff.
Also horrible colonizers of Western Sahara and a repressive regime.
