Do you have iOS? If so, set Screen Time. I have mine set to allow 15 minutes per day. Enough time to watch videos from a few creators I actually like, a few reels, and then I’m locked out of the app for the day and have to do something potentially more productive.
If I change my mind, it lets me hit one more minute, remind me in 15 minutes, or ignore for today if I really have nothing better to do.
If you’re not on Team Fruit, I’m sure Android has something like this.
lvive reaction i was about to sit down for another video but i looked closelya nd it was propaganda
Please take a break from the screen because you seem to not be doing well.
idk how old are you, but you need to try another way of killing time if you’re aware that antisocial media are being an issue for your well-being. have you tried learning some languages, drawing a little or playing an instrument?
I think we might have to get IT on this, comrade is malfunctioning /j
Log out of Instagram if you can’t delete it.
If you try to simply log back in. Make your password longer and more complicated. This will make you less likely to want to log back in.
Waste your time with someone more meaningful.
Maybe find a hobby
Maybe use the time to explore the outside.
I just had a week without the internet (spent the past week in hospital) and it was surprisingly easy to go cold turkey.
omg so this is it what happened to you. i was starting to notice your absence and was wanting to message u. what happened and r u ok?
One of the side effects of my cancer treatment is that I developed terrible eczema, and a while ago my eczema cream was discontinued. The doctor prescribed several others, but none work. There is one that works kind of OK but it’s not available on the NHS, I have to buy it myself and I just can’t afford to. So the eczema worsened, including inside my ear canals, and got infected on my hand and inside my ear. It turned into a terrible ear infection and my ear canal closed up totally. I’ve also become allergic to virtually all antibiotics, so nothing worked and I ended up in hospital, with them trying to treat both the infection and the allergic reactions, eventually they found something that worked. But I’m discharged still without any real help for the eczema. So I guess it will just keep flaring up.
im happy u got atleast some sense of relief, i promise u were missed in this community
Thank you. 🫂
Put your phone in grayscale, I guarantee you wont want to look at it any more
I’m at the point where I’ve even deleted YouTube from my phone because the shorts are pervasive. I hope you can make the turn and get rid of the slop scrolling apps.
If you can’t delete Instagram or any other time wasting app, download an app called Opal and then put a lockdown block on those apps from 12:01am to 11:59pm. The lockdown block means you can’t simply undo the restriction, leaving you no way of getting around Opals block. Every time you try and open the app you’ll see a black screen with a random quote or bit of snark before the app automatically closes.
Wdym physically can’t delete instagram from your phone? Like it’s a default app?
I don’t think you’re alone in this, especially considering many turned to social media to cope with social isolation during the pandemic and ending up fostering an unhealthy relationship with social media. A Couple ideas:
-
If you can’t delete it or willpower your way into stopping, you could maybe consider getting one of those NFC blockers that block specific applications on your device. Never used them myself, but it’s probably what I’d do if I had a social media problem that I couldn’t control.
-
Secondly, there’s tons of better and low cost alternatives to social media. I’d recommend getting into Librivox if your interested in audio books, or maybe checking out standardebooks.org if you’d prefer to read. Physical books can also be a good way to kill free time. Really, any hobby or pastime not involving an endless feed of content is better than social media.
-
Lastly, consider sleeping without your phone nearby. That way, it won’t be as easy to scroll during the night and checking your phone won’t be the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning. You’ll probably need to get an alarm clock if you don’t have one though.
