  • In a hypothetical forced choice head-to-head, 1 in 3 British adults (33%) would prefer Count Binface to win the Clacton by-election, giving him a 12ppt lead over Farage (21%). 32% say neither. 13% don’t know;
  • Nearly 3 in 4 (74%) state that the parliamentary standards commissioner should be investigating whether the Reform UK leader broke parliamentary rules;
  • 73% say investigation should continue even if Farage wins the by-election.

    Please, for the love of god, make Count Binface win, it would be the funniest thing you’ve done since you elected Boris.

        No, he absolutely still could. Whether he will be is another matter, he’s got extremely wealthy backers.

        Hence why Starmer threw in the towel over nothing. The UK isn’t really run by the elected politicians, it’s run by the people who fund the party LLCs.

          Let’s hope voters vote Green the upcoming years. Without a wealth tax, it won’t get better.

    When Count Binface started showing up in the news, an article was posted on Lemmy and a USian said something like “You guys have joke candidates?!” And someone (presumably UKian) said something like “Yeah, but at least we don’t vote them into office.”

    Oh how the turntables.

    We already knew most people in the UK don’t like Nigel Farage, but that doesn’t matter much with first past the post. The important question is whether the people of Clacton are a bunch of reactionary racists with no sense of humour or whether they can see the value of a random guy with a bin on his head.

      It’s easy to point and laugh from another region, even from another country.

      But you have to consider that the people of Clacton will ultimately have to live with whichever one wins the election. They have to vote with their brains, for the person that will ultimately bring them more pros than cons. That’s why I cannot blame anyone for voting for mcbinface, at the end of the day, it’s just the best option.

        His stated platform is literally more sane than Nigels. Like, he is objectively the better candidate and that is just assessing him based on his character.

      It’s England, it’s a historically Tory district, and they already elected him once with 42% of the vote. So, safe bet that it does - in fact - have a bunch of reactionary racists with no sense of humor turning out to the polls.

      Farage is also larded up with money from his billionaire friends and positioning himself to be the next PM of the country. When it comes to GOTV, I think he’s got the edge over a D-list internet celebrity who regularly gets confused with a nearly identical D-list internet celebrity running on the same joke.

      In what is shaping up to be a Reform UK wave election year, I regret to say the funny outcome isn’t where the smart money is at. The only real question is whether Farage wins handily in a landslide while doing the Big Racism from every major news outlet or squeaks in on a marginal victory after having to actually perform a few weeks of retail politics in his district.

      I doubt they even invited Nige. He’s just a weird little toadman they can use as a fifth-columnist in return for minor aura boosts.

    I’ll qualify this with the fact that I know nothing about Binface.

    But people electing a Boaty McBoatface candidate for lols is partly how we got trump on this side of the pond. IDk. I should read more about these games.

      Her runs in every election, he’s like their Vermin Supreme. His disillusionment with politics would probably make him an excellent candidate compared to Farage, who actively desires fascism.

      I’m not too much into British elections but from what I’ve gathered he’s mostly doing satire and making fun of absurd politics and politicians, whereas Trump was only ever in it for his own gain.

      I’ve heard it’s full of old conservatives, so probably Farage will win. I’d love to be wrong though.

      If it’s close, it’s still a humiliation so it’s a win in my book.

        Farage won with 33% last time with the remaining 67% split between candidates

        If the same people vote again but that 67% go for binface he has already lost.

        Hell if only 50% of that 67% vote for binface he still loses

    • In a hypothetical forced choice head-to-head…32% say neither.

    Not the conventional way a forced choice works, but…
