The only thing I might disagree with is this being a consequence of Carney. Carney is a big part of it, but this move to the right is not just a Carney thing, or even just a Liberal Party thing. There are also Conservatives who feel betrayed by their party for moving too far to the right. It’s a substantial move to the right across over 90% of our elected representatives. The shift is bigger and worse than just being a Carney thing.

Its also not only a Canada thing.

The wingnuttiest of the right wing is increasingly inserting themselves into the political sphere globally, dragging the Overton window to the right as they do it.

I hope there will be a rebound towards the left (as has historically tended to happen) before they are able to do too much damage.

Is it even a Liberal party thing? The dynamic seems more like he’s on the very right flank of the party, but he has a majority, and a national crisis, and the NDP isn’t trying to woo moderates at all. So, what are they going to do about it?

Can confirm, voted Conservative but wished they stop trying to segregate the population.

If you support LGBT folk then that’s your life, if you own guns and target shoot then that’s your life, if you believe in xyz religion then that’s your life.

Let everyone live life how they want to, freely, quit trying to butt in.

Edit; This goes for Liberals as well, take note.

Phil Ochs nailed liberals 60 years ago in his song “Love me, I’m a Liberal”. This was his intro to the song:

"In every American community there are varying shades of political opinion. One of the shadiest of these is the liberals. An outspoken group on many subjects, ten degrees to the left of center in good times, ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally. Here, then, is a lesson in safe logic. "

While he was talking about the beast below us, it still fits here.

Mark Carney is a placeholder. Like literally, he’s accomplished, but his main style is having no particular style.

The NDP and Conservatives are way off in their respective wings right now, and there’s a never-ending external threat to rally people around the flag. This is easy mode for any Liberal PM.

Edit: So no, he’s not causing any realignment himself. He’s just running things the way he wants, because he can.

This has always been the style of the Liberal party. Justin Trudeau was an outlier.

This is why they’re called “the Natural Governing Party of Canada.” They benefit from tremendous amounts of vote splitting!

    This sucks.

4 years is too long. We need a mid-mandate vote of confidence to trigger new elections and elect a new government if we’re unhappy.

Otherwise we need to start getting violent. We need to start showing up to our MP’s offices and parliament with literal pitchforks. We need to get organized.
