I see this as a possible first step toward #electoralreform
Be careful what you wish for.
The last “grass roots” party to gain any sort of traction was the Reform Party.
And we still haven’t recovered from their legacy.
The new NDP already has a solid plan for electoral reform that is actionable.
No not possible. I don’t even think the NDP or viable anymore.
This one looks like it’s going nowhere. We are not likely to get a better chance to reform the electoral system than to vote NDP at the next opportunity.
I don’t know if that branding is going places.
Otherwise, I’d make “Why a new party?” and similar FAQ first and foremost, right next to the constitution. In the current system, with the federal NDP barely alive, you’ll need a strong thesis to further split the vote while conservatives are federally united in fucking things up.
I’ll be voting for NDP next election, almost certainly. Avi’s platform is heads and shoulders above what Singh was bringing to the table.
Carney was the best choice we had at the time and probably the right guy to lead Canada during this period of global economic transition. But he does not share a vision with the majority of Canadians.
Don’t know if they’ll make it but there is the Revolution party who keeps proceeding through the hoops to be a recognized party.
Apparently we used to have a pirate party? I wonder what it would take to have that make a comeback.
I’ll hold my breath for a 3rd party when Americans start primarying sitting democrats.
Until then you’re basically asking for something much harder to accomplish than what’s already not happening.
How about when the UK Green Party wins more seats? We have a Zack Polanski (and Zohran Mamdani)-like figure in Avi Lewis.
Oh shit I thought this was US politics.
We don’t need a new party IF Avi is any indication of the direction the NDP is going.
