It makes perfect sense, wealthy capitalists are almost always pro fascism…

That’s why when wealthy capitalists take over the left most option, it leads to outright fascism.

What just happened isn’t unique to America, it happens all the fucking time all over the planet, for all of recorded history.

When the left most option is still wealthy oligarchs, they don’t get enough votes letting the rightwing option seize power, because their voters have more blind loyalty and are more willing to believe their party’s lies.

Not disagreeing here but what leads to the point where there is no more left position than wealthy oligarchs?

        Comfort.

        Gen 1 fights fascism.

Gen 2 enjoys society and understands how much worse it can be.

Gen 3 grows up with all the advantages and privilege, takes it for granted, and burns it down so they don’t have to pay for Gen 4 to have it.

        • that is when both sides sell out to the oligarchs

Gen 4 is fucked and desperate, and either disengage politically or go with the party that’s the best liars.

        • that is where we are now.

        What comes next?

If we’re lucky at the DNC chair election they see the error of their ways, the neoliberals lose their death grip on the party, and shit gets better surprisingly fast. If we’re lucky we came close enough to the ground that we go to Gen 2.

If we’re not, the left most option sides with the oligarchs over voters, and it’s time to affix your own oxygen mask before helping your neighbor. We’re back at Gen 1, and it might take a while

          Comfort

I think that’s kinda a trope along the lines of the “hard men create soft men” saying.

In reality fascism is a reactionary response to the very idea of democracy itself. It’s not completely economical in nature, which makes defining fascism when you see it harder a lot of the time.

As we saw with German and Italian fascism, there will of course be collaboration with capital, but a Hallmark of fascist is that they are at times completely fine with socializing private equity, usually as a way to further their culturally conservative goals.

Fascism is the reactionary response to social equity. It propagates itself by releasing havoc into the political hierarchy and then proclaiming only they can fix the system they broke themselves.

Whiteknife: Do you remember that movie we did with Johnny Morton? You were the Sheriff, and I was some generic Indian?

Howard: Hey come on, don’t say that. Tallhand Mudlake could talk to horses. You played him with grace and dignity. It was a great role for you!

W: Morton played a rancher who owned half of Missouri. And what happens when the cattle ranchers have more power than the Sheriff?

H: The whole town burns down.

W: The whole town burns down. Right. Vault-Tec is a trillion-dollar company that owns half of everything, and after ten years of war the US Government is broker than a joke. The cattle ranchers are in charge, Coop. Unless the People do something about it.

H: I guess everything’s a conspiracy, right? Come on man, you sound like you’re in a cult.

W: And you’re sitting here defending a system that’s ready to set the world on fire, Cooper. Maybe you’re the one in the cult.
