Hi there, I am a 28-year-old gamer. Ever since I started playing video games for the first time when I was like 3, I have always been a gaming enthusiast. I play all kinds of games, from 3A games, and sports (NBA 2K series, FIFA series, Need for Speed series) to smaller-sized games (Slay the Spire, Hades, etc.), I was keen on trying anything.

Recently, I put together a good gaming PC (4070 Ti Super, 9600X, 32G RAM), and I pretty much bought everything and put them together myself. I remember researching different components and specs tirelessly for about 2 weeks, and I really enjoyed the process of figuring everything out and seeing my PC finally up and running. But shortly after that, I found that I lost all interest in gaming. I’m recently playing Baldur’s Gate 3, NBA 2K25, and Hearthstone, but for each game I can only play like 30 minutes every time and then I’d feel burnt out and stop playing.

Seems to me that I’ve lost the ability to really “dive into” a game. Anyone experiencing the same? Am I getting to old for gaming? I would really want to get back to the state where I can play tirelessly for hours and still feel the joy. Thanks!

For me, it’s always a cycle. The month before I can play all night long every night, the one after I don’t even turn on my pc. I don’t fret too much about it anymore, bc I know that sooner or later I will find again joy in videogames. But if I need to point out one explanation, I would say that work induced stress is always a menace to my free time activities, not only vg.
