martinelli can easily reach 20+ goals in a season.

he won’t & the major reason for that is because he is horribly underutilized. today was the perfect example of that; martinelli was red-hot yet the play kept being focused back on the right hand side where saka wasn’t as good & odegaard was ghosting.

when we introduce a LCM that is either a controller/creator or a dominant ball-carrying force with a complimentary profile & then we can spread usage throughout the field, martinelli’s potential will be unleashed.

until then, the right-hand bias will ensure that martinelli never reaches the full height of his superstardom imo

If everyone played as attacking as that against us then Martinelli would have more goals. Problem is, majority of Prem plays more cautiously against us, incl. top 6.

that’s probably true, but a different issue. you’re right though.

i’m saying the current right-hand dominance in the system also prevents martinelli from getting as many opportunities to score/assist as, say, saka & odegaard. despite this he still scored around 15 in the PL last year.

if we had a technician in the LCM role, and thus could evenly spread the usage between both sides dependent on gamestate and form, martinelli would end up better for it. the team would too, as u can see by odegaard being marked out of the game at times.

Like TerraBlah said, the low block is the standard operating procedure for us in the Prem. That really hampers Marti. He’s an integral player, but rarely gets the space to make his moves.
