Were people actually wanting Wenger to leave in 2008 and thinking he was past it at that point? I just saw someone mention that in the thread about Arsene. That seems harsh as 07/08 while it had a painful ending was exiting and a push for the title. Sort of like last season.

Considering where arsenal was pre 2006 then yes

Looking back we fell of cliff in 2009. (Since the rise of City)

2008 though was a promising season. Nobody is saying after last season that Arteta should go as it was a real push for the title. I understand with the benefit of hindsight we know what happened after 2008 but that team was exiting then. Also you know Wenger did deserve loyalty at that time and the chance to build another team. I feel people the majority started to feel a change was needed in the last several years. I think it was in 2016 though when Leceister won the league when a lot of people lost hope

The main issue was the club didn’t push when they needed it

2008,2013,2016 we challenged but didn’t add quality

No not really, we were enamored by the beautiful football, the majority of the fanbase still believed in the vision of winning with very technical diminutive players. I think the cynicism kicked beginning of 11/12 for the majority. Nasri and Cesc leaving late in the window, losing to Liverpool and then that infamous 8-2 loss, the desperate incomings on deadline day. It was the nail in the coffin for Wenger’s dream and exposed how far we had fallen and how unorganised the club was.

In 2008 it was literally just nonces, no serious person wanted Arsene to leave 4 years after an invincible season.

It was only after 2011 that Wenger concerns/criticism started to have real merit
