I understand distribution is important for modern goalies and I know Arteta really values it, but there is still more to being a GK than just distribution.
It just feels cherry-picked and pushes a particular narrative, I would be more ok if it specifically said it was a distribution comparison but it doesn’t.
Having a GK comparison where they don’t include any save stats just feels weird.
still better, 8 saved out of 12 shots for raya (66.6%), 5 saves for 9 shots for ramsdale (55%), better last year aswell, raya was the best saver in the league last year and so far in the league is 4th save percentage wise on 75% with ramsdale in 22nd on 55.5%, with raya only playing one game more, we need to stop the ramsdale being better narrative now before we shoot rayas confidence and are left with a worse goalkeeper for it
I wasn’t saying if one was better or not, as much as I love Ramsedale I know Raya is probably better.
But when you make a comparison of goalkeepers then not put in any traditional goalkeeping stats it feels unfair, it doesn’t give you the entire picture.
My issue was with the comparison chart, not with the decision to go with Raya.
I like Raya, but c’mon - no one on this sub can hurt Raya’s confidence at all. He’s a professional and it kinda delusional to think we have any impact on him.
its not just the sub, its all over social media, and despite what people think footballers arent special humans, they will eventually see that everyone is calling for them to be swapped out (would especially hurt since he is better in everyway so its just favouritism)
Or, much more importantly, tot up how many major mistakes they’ve each made that led to us conceding a major chance or goal… Ramsdale’s made one that I can remember this season (against Brentford), while Raya’s averaging more than one per game so far with the heinous City performance and 2 mistakes against Chelsea.
No one should be bringing up stats when he could have cost us 2 goals in each of the last 2 league games. That’s unacceptable and would have probably got him dropped at any other club without the weird nepotism situation with our GK coach.
Raya’s the Mustafi of goalkeepers. If you make game-changing mistakes, nothing else you do matters. Insignificant nonsense like passing accuracy don’t get to be discussed given how many major chances he hands the opposition every game. We were so, so lucky that Palmer and Alvarez didn’t capitalise, because our title challenge could have been practically over already thanks to Raya (City would be 7 points ahead right now if we hadn’t won those coinflips)
I will always continue to say this, that the people who are given microphones to talk about the keeping position show how little to nothing they know about the position. Hence these stat lines.
So are we gonna compare any goalkeeping stats for our goalies or no?
That’s kinda what I took from this as well.

Honestly no because I think it’s obvious that Mikel values distribution ability more than actual goalkeeping
Raya has made more passes. The keeper is more busy when he plays. Is that a good thing?
Where’s the xG shit that they was being pushed when he was signed?

These comparisons are pissing me off: partey was rb, white at cb and Gabriel was benched! See how raya do with that experimental back line
