Haven’t watched that video and i don’t plan on doing so. BE is very transparently trying to farm outrage engagement, but his specific niche of ultra-leftism is too irrelevant to be worth engaging with. The first response sums up everything that needed to be said.

It’s very telling how these figures start cultivating a certain audience. I took a brief look at the comments - didn’t want to spend more time there than I needed, frankly I have better things to do, but - all the ones I saw basically seemed like the same brand of post-irony nihilism that I thought we’d left in 2010. the “2 good 4 politics” types. as you said, too irrelevant (and unserious) to be worth engaging with. They can think socialism sucks all they want, they’re just talk.

The same thing happened to the squirrel on twitter. Anon account who makes a lot of very forceful predictions based on just vibes. But they also block anyone who contradicts them or doesn’t fully agree with them. Over time the only people you see in their replies are the most unhinged conspiracy theorists, because they’re the only ones who swallow it hook line and sinker and will believe whatever is thrown at them.

It was actually one reason I stopped writing on substack, the audience that was starting to gather around my blog was one I had absolutely no wish to interact with. It’s important to cultivate your audience, and it not only shows who you are, it makes you who you are.

        It’s called being edgy

I’m not going to try to say it’s some sort of science. His politics are “general anti-imperial leftism” and beyond that he says whatever the most inflammatory thing is. Fortunately sometimes it’s right. Unfortunately he’s often wrong, or just insufferable

Never respect the edgy people: They have nothing worthwhile to say (unless you count them as examples of what not to do).

So basically after 4 years he finally figured out that Ukraine is an anti-leftwing, anti-communist fascist state. Better late then never, I guess.

I say recent, but it is further back than I remembered.

Here’s a thread talking about his Transphobia, where he implies that trans people are just white people trying to pretend to be marginalised: https://hexbear.net/comment/6651198

And here’s one talking about his ableism, where he implies that that people with mental illness are just self-diagnosed and therefore “faking it” for internet clout: https://hexbear.net/post/6306745

Dude is just chronically online and deep in that 4Chan mindset of being edgy for edgy’s sake, not worth listening too even if he wasn’t a piece of shit. He hasn’t said anything worthwhile that hasn’t been said better by someone else.

Oh, wow, that’s… not a great look.

Those are straight up reactionary talking points wtf. In the first one, the person he’s replying to didn’t even use being trans as a talking point or anything; why tf is he going after her marginalized identity when the issue is that she’s a ZioNazi pig. You just know he wouldn’t say “being a woman is mostly a way to claim a marginalized identity to hide behind” unprompted if she was cis.

He has insulted people for their looks and being fat before, and I’m just like cmon; yes, its common in our society, but its still childish and we don’t want to propagate that being ugly and fat is a moral failing.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he did do something like that actually. And then use it as a defence for all his other behaviour, by arguing “I’m transphobia (etc) because I insult everyone.” which is a very common thing for edgelords like him to do.

And yeah, he seems more interesting in “the dunk” or whatever rather than actually educating people or even just being a decent person, and this is where that sort of attitude leads.
