Hungary has repeatedly used its EU veto to block sanctions on Israel; if opposition leader Péter Magyar wins and aligns with Brussels to unlock billions in funding, Jerusalem could lose its last line of defense in the bloc

How significant would a Magyar victory be for Israel? Officials familiar with the matter say a Hungary led by Magyar would not resemble Spain or Ireland, which have taken some of the most hardline positions against Israel in the European Union. Magyar is a center-right candidate. The concern for Israel lies in his campaign promise to secure $15 billion in EU funding for Hungary.

To do so, he would need to align with Brussels. This would likely mean the end of Hungary’s veto on decisions targeting Israel. As a result, Jerusalem could lose its last line of defense in the EU against sanctions, which require unanimity among all 27 member states. Hungary’s vote has repeatedly blocked such initiatives, and that protection could now disappear.

    What an absurd, ridiculous framing. As if Hungary is the only obstacle to EU doing anything at all that goes against “Israel”. Newsflash: Germany exists. Germany will never allow “Israel” to be sanctioned. Europe is full of diehard Zionists at the elite level. If they use Orban as the spoiler on this it’s only because they don’t want to take the PR hit themselves. The only effect this will actually have is to let them be even more suicidal in their policies toward Russia, which is where Orban actually played a meaningful role in blocking EU stupidity.

    This is another transparent attempt to try and sway the election against Orban, this time by exploiting people’s pro-Palestinian sentiment to spin this story that if only we got rid of Orban suddenly the EU would stop supporting apartheid and genocide.

          You do have a point on Germany but all the prominent Zionist agents like Tommy Robinson and Geert Wilders have always had a massive hard-on for Orban. So it’s pretty obvious Israel really attaches a lot of value to Orban.

          I couldn’t tell you why though. Might be related to leverage with Russia (getting their Zionist puppets to support Orban so Russia will give them something in exchange). But it’s a lot less obvious than AIPAC and there’s much less reporting about it. All I know is that the Zionist lobby hecking loves Orban. And also Hungary didn’t do too hot on the anti-Israel EU signatures
