From the article: "From what I hear there isn’t much budget or desire to do significant business in January (important to add that this could hypothetically change depending on potential departures, availability of targets, injuries, form and so on) and naturally that would put Arsenal in a stronger position to invest again next summer.
I don’t think we can question KSE’s willingness to do so since taking full control of the club, it’s more a matter of what the FFP rules enable them to do. The David Raya deal going through as a loan with an option to buy illustrated that Arsenal are sailing close to the wind. My understanding is that, once they are in a more comfortable FFP position and able to spend properly again, the first outlay will likely need to be turning the Raya move into a permanent transfer.
Thereafter I’m sure they will have a plan as to how they wish to proceed. Most probably — as things stand — that will start with a striker. We’ve all seen the names linked. There is also the long-held desire to provide back-up/competition for Bukayo Saka, potentially depth at left centre-back, left-back cover if Tierney leaves, and so on.
I’m sure Arsenal — like most teams — will be scouring the market for top emerging talent and good value-for-money deals, which obviously will be easier to do than the big-money transactions."
Arsenal gave him a new deal because they don’t want to lose him for free.
Gooners also need to accept that the “Hale End identity” of the club was during a period when we had to sell to stabilize our finances and producing our own talent was key to our success.
Now, we have the ability to target the world’s best players to improve our team. Of course, if your academy produces a player that can chat to the world’s best talents then you keep them. But I’ll be honest, there isn’t a single Hale Ender in our Academy/on loan that can chat to the world’s best talents apart from Nwaneri.
Selling talent is how a club becomes self sustainable. I’d love to sit here and say that we’re going to win the treble every season and that’s where our finances will come from to be a self sustaining club so we can keep every Hale End player, but that’s obviously not going to happen.
Yeah he does play on the left too but our depth on that side is much stronger. I would like to see ESR and Nelson play regularly - so it’s disheartening to see them competing for limited game time in the same position.
What? City could spend 300 million more and still not be in FFP trouble. They’ve sold incredibly well for years now and on top of that have won every trophy available. Besides, we spent 100 million ourselves on Declan Rice. How is them spending 100 million somehow suspect?

This made me laugh for some reason.
Nelson is backup to Saka and he just signed a new deal. Really like Nelson too - one of our best impact substitutes.
Nelson is going to be replaced as soon as the right profile winger for us becomes available
I hope not - he just signed a new contract. Hale End is the identity of the club. You can’t buy that.
We extended his contract because we couldn’t afford another winger with our other expenditure
Arsenal gave him a new deal because they don’t want to lose him for free.

Myles Lewis-Skelly: “What he say fuck me for?”
We say that but he plays on the left more lol

why would we need depth at LCB
Makes me even more sus of how city can just go out and spend 100 mil on gvadiol
