Like for example, obviously I’m a sports fan, but through all of sports the one thing I love watching more than anything is great baseball pitchers. Watching how much movement they can put on a ball is just fun to watch.

I’ll watch like a clip of people doing “crazy” things like mailing a difficult shot, or some other high skill play.

But I could not care less about team culture, league culture, specific players/coaches, championships, W/L records, etc.

Even the Olympics all I care about is the sportsmanship of the world coming together to compete fairly as a show that outside politics we can all get along for this event. But I don’t care about watching any of it, I just like the humanity of it.

Sports can bring out great does of skill, but I just wish it wasn’t such a default small talk thing. People will get mad at each other at work for liking the wrong team and they’ll rag on each other about issues that none of them have a hand in.

Like… Just like it privately. It shouldn’t be such a huge part of your personality. I shouldn’t know who you like while actively trying to stay out of any and all discussion about it.

I know this is a late reply but smack talking your friends is one of the best things about sports.

Like as a Nebraska football fan back when we were big 8/12 one of our main 3 rivals was Missouri. Had a friend through Xbox live that developed into a actual friendship. He was a Missouri fan every year wed make a bet on the upcoming season. There would be times we wouldn’t even speak to each other during that game week and the trash taking commenced once it was over.

It’s just busting balls. I remember being on my honeymoon walking the beach in Mexico with my Husker hat on when a 70 year old woman yelled at me that Nebraska sucks. She had her Oklahoma shirt on

I barely know any college teams, but I remember Huskers, because of one of my best friends. Her dad was a big fan of theirs.

I think that kind of friend interaction is cool, and even the occasional stranger shit talk. I still just don’t get making it your entire thing, or shtick, or aura. No matter what your hobby is, really. I guess sports people just tick me off in particular because of how much I hate it specifically.

I have plenty of hobbies and even though my team has sucked the last 25 years I still look forward to football season every year. This year my interest preseason has been at an all time low, hell for the first time in my life I didn’t even know who our starting QB was up until two weeks before. But once week one hit. And Boise almost knocks of Oregon. Western Michigan basically pulled off the non upset of the year over Michigan it’s back and I love it
