I’ve enjoyed the few times I’ve been at a range, but I don’t ever plan to own any.
And I also enjoy a few FPS games, but I wouldn’t say I enjoy guns. Not enough to fit in the common part with conservatives. They fucking jizz their pants if they hear the word “Glock” or “Remington”.
I don’t have a clue what company made the guns I’ve shot.

I also saw a bunch of #4 somewhere. It was either at one set of grandparents’, or one of my friends’ houses.
Mom actually still has the pictured kind, still being used to this day. I was there just last week and there was some of it still drying in the dishwasher. I stole a few plates and bowls when I left, and it’s still the only glassware I’ve ever really used more than a couple times. I’m not particularly find of it, but I have these pieces and I don’t give a fuck what it looks like if it works.

No, this came up from talking about how it (the puck) doesn’t have to be connected to the device you’re playing on. Which outside of Bluetooth or using a steam machine, you would have to have it connected.
Directly wired hasn’t come up at all until you just mentioned it.
I mean, based on my observations, I think the only people organizing these at all are straight white cisheteronormative types (and further, almost always women).
Maybe that’s just how I’ve seen it, but I’ve never witnessed them, I usually only hear about them at all if a video pops up of a compilation of bad reactions or mistakes (as in wrong color reveal, accidental early reveal) pops up. Maybe that’s just me but I haven’t personally seen much of any other group doing them in the first place. Occasionally there are others, but almost always done by them.
For one, as far as I know that’s a single player game. Anyone with other players around means constant slight readjustments, and having everything you do held back (even if only a tenth of a second- I don’t know the actual number, that’s a ballpark guesstimate) really adds up.
For almost every game it doesn’t matter a whole lot. But when it does, it really matters. Bluetooth headphones pad the audio a smidge too, to the point of rather play without sound instead of late audio. It causes constant sending guessing, and if you’re using both your leaky playing in a game state that’s already past (although when online you always are anyway but cutting as much out as possible is miles better).
My point (the part I quoted in my original reply) was that you would need the puck plugged into the device you’re playing on, assuming you don’t want to deal with the delay.
So if that’s not a problem for you, then that doesn’t apply, but I assume most people will want the fast connection.
I realize that. But that’s just for that machine, but I’m speaking for arbitrary devices.
The protocol hasn’t gotten faster in the last few years that I know of.
I’ve used several with different devices, but most of my direct comparison experience is with an Xbox series X controller paired to the Deck via BT and by dongle, and it’s very noticeably more laggy with Bluetooth. I’ve only occasionally tried others, but every Bluetooth-connected controller I’ve ever used definitely has a noticeable delay.
No one says that you have to explicitly plug it in to whatever you’re playing on.
You do if you want it to connect to the thing you’re playing on.
Unless you’re ok with a shitty Bluetooth connection. But I’m guessing few people comparatively are using that, at least as their primary use case.
You can’t tell me playing with a Bluetooth controller doesn’t actually hurt you. The constant latency is excruciating.
Then again, I use it for mostly real time- based games.
If you’re playing something like Balatro it probably doesn’t matter. But for almost everything else it sure does.

Update: The error on that issue wasn’t the one I had, but the command was the one that ended in Neptune 611, so I did use it.
Ran the debug install again and no dice.
Rebooted and reinstalled, then back to gaming mode, and now it’s working. I knew from several mentions that it might take a couple reboots, so even though it felt weird to need to do it more than once, I still did, and it seems to have paid off.
Now I’ll still have to switch the dongle back and forth from my PC for now (until I get my hands on the new steam controller), but I can live with that.
Although as soon as I get it paired and working, I see a new steam os update, so I’ll probably need to do it all again anyway. But at least I can trust the process now.
Personally that’s what I’d like to do anyway. I’m saying that to discuss the growth of the technology among the masses.
Assuming it doesn’t make me violently ill, i like tech and gaming enough to keep it around otherwise. But the potential for the issue and the committal involved off the bat are difficulties for any new, different-enough tech.
Maybe so, but you probably need to enjoy your first exposure to want to drop money on an entire setup for it.
It’s already crazy enough to drop that money just hoping you like it, but if you drop it hoping it stops making you nauseous, that’s a much bigger ask.
I’m still hoping I won’t have that problem. I do get car sick on meandering drives, but not even close to as bad as I did 10-15 years ago, but the worse the drive gets, the more I have to stay staring out the car windows.
I assume the VR effect would be similar, given it’s a similar symptom, but backwards. (In VR you don’t feel motion, but you see it, whereas in a car, you feel it, but either don’t see it from not looking, or if you have wide visibility it looks like you’re not moving as much compared to the background)

There’s no way people go outside with 4 eyebrows. I mean, not people of the conservative variety since they think all presentations besides “typical white person” should be done away with.
I was a pretty big enjoyer of the design of the first Steam controller, so adding a second stick and keeping the touchpads sounds great. Also mine broke, I can’t remember exactly what gave out, but it was just destroyed, and using a touchpad for a second stick felt awkward af.
I didn’t even mind the way it bent “backwards”, the fact that the stick and buttons were tiny, or its weird shape. Actually thinking about it, it was the right trigger that broke and just caved in, Spring broke, plastic tab snapped off, just basically a hole left there. I wasn’t about to attempt a repair, either. I don’t have the skill for that.
Anyway, this looks nice. A lot of people seem to call it ugly, but I don’t get it. Sturdy and functional are a good look, so this looks great. And if it functions just as well as the Steam Deck controls, (and of course it will, since it’s basically the same parts except switching out magnetic sticks instead of regular ones)
Here’s hoping the triggers are better on it. It’s definitely on my radar for next year.
The problem is to really make an informed decision you have to try it first-hand. The sensory experience unlike any other device, so descriptions aren’t super helpful, video doesn’t convey what it’s actually like, so you really have to experience it to understand it.
Also given how common it seems to be anecdotally to get sick from it, no one wants to jump in just to have to jump back out.
And unless you know someone that already jumped in and can try theirs, a lot of people like me just don’t want to commit sight unseen. (I mean I’m also broke, but this would be true anyway)
I don’t have a way to try it out, so until I do it’s not on my radar to care. I’m very curious about it. Even if I don’t like it I do really want to see what it’s like at least once. But I’m not gonna pay for that chance. It’s gotta impress me without effort on my part (more than driving to it anyway).

As in literally taking the money straight out of the billionaire funding pockets. But not in parity with the amounts used for AI funding, I just mean all of it. And not simply “all of it”, but actually all of it, to the point where they’re in soup kitchen lines and panhandling, hoping to get enough to pay for dinner.
Take all that money and put it in science research, charities, etc.
If they can’t get enough from the charities back to keep breathing, then oh well. Sorry people that deserve it got it instead, oh well, we’ll make a note that we’re all doing great on the money that was yours.
