This is quite surely about some combination of greenwashing and desire to have a seat at the table to interfere with negotiations, rather than any kind of sincere desire to go along with decarbonization.

The bigger oil and gas companies want just enough regulation to make it easier for them to force out smaller companies for whom hitting these targets is more difficult, but no more than that. These big companies often are so vertically integrated that they can design systems across sectors of the industry that do actually emit less than older equipment segmented by lots of smaller companies. It’s a sad fact that increasing climate protections tends to consolidate oil and gas corporate power into fewer and bigger companies because it’s going to make the last mile of the transition from fossil fuels that much harder.

Can we finally agree on most people denying climate change and go full on ending project humanity and earth til 2100?

I cant stand climate change denyers. It is so hard to speak against such a wild crowd and well the only good thing is that trump is gonna fck his voters soon and I can laugh.

I dont have children and yet I limit my climate abusement to as low as possible and then you have these Leaders.

Come on just blast everything we have and end it soon, best for all

Still, if they can convince him to keep the US in the agreement, that’s better than the alternative. Though my hopes here are not high.

Alas, they’d have a seat at the table anyways, considering how large and global they are - they could for example push through their ExxonMobile Canada affiliate, or through one or several of their European ones.
