How could he know? Last time he played in Ligue 1 was almost 10 years ago.

Anyway I don’t wanna any player who play in this league in our NT. He is 32 years old it’s time to move on.

K how would you know anything close to the quality of either league then if the criteria is how recently you played in the league?

I think at least give him till the euros before giving him the shove. Similar to Henderson, playing in Saudi league is a massive downgrade but their skills don’t dissappear overnight. It’s not like they are 38 or something. Perhaps someone in the locker room with veteran presence coming off the bench.

One of the best midfielders of his generation probably knows a thing or two about football you’d think especially having played in the league.

      Surely, Deschamps is taking notes.

Oh, I guess he’s able to make a precise ranking of all leagues in the planet, then.

Even those he didn’t play in in the last 10 years.

Being a great footballer doesn’t always translate to giving sensible opinions on football. We’ve seen this time and time again

You seem to be under a mistaken impression that you get a say in who gets select into the NT. Such an unfortunate misconception to have.

Sure, the top 4 teams in the league have some good players after the big spending by the government this summer.

It’s still an extremely uneven league though, perhaps the most uneven in the world. There are 18 teams in the league and it’s really only that top 4 or so that have good players, the difference in squad market value between the top and the bottom is ridiculous. The top 4 clubs are in the 130M to 250M range for total squad value, but the bottom 6 clubs are only in the 15M-20M range: https://www.transfermarkt.us/saudi-professional-league/startseite/wettbewerb/SA1

For context, 12 out of 18 Ligue 1 clubs exceed the 100M mark and 7 exceed the 200M mark. The lowest squad value is 37M and all of the other clubs are 50M+: https://www.transfermarkt.us/ligue-1/startseite/wettbewerb/FR1

You have to get into mid-table in Ligue 2 to find teams in the 15-20M squad value range in France.

Saudi league has a deal with Laliga. Cristiano’s team already played a laliga team (Celta if i remember correctly) and they got trashed. Saudi league should also sign a deal with ligue 1 so that Kanté could prove us wrong…

Tbh he said the top 5 matches which I don’t find to be too out of pocket overall. The Al Hilal squad would do damage in Europe if they had the right coaching and right complementary players

It might feel like, but that’s not his intention, quite the opposite. He (or at least his entourage) are campaigning for his return to the NT (good luck with that!) and their argument is that the Saudi League is a high level league, so N’Golo still has the goods to play with Les Bleus.

People might think you’re joking, but they do pay for positive social media posts, so wouldn’t be a stretch to pay for positive words in interviews.

This marketing campaign through the players is the most telegraphed and obvious thing of all time. Go on then Koulibaly, you’re up next week - say the atmosphere is equal to European Top 5 leagues.
