A pedestrian and bicycle path will be built beside the Metro line from Sydenham to Bankstown — and cycling advocates hope that it is just the start.
In my heart I’m imagining the bike lane is next to the tracks, so it can avoid road crossings. I suspect this won’t be true, but until I’m proven otherwise my imagination will not relent.
Likewise, I’m hoping this is a cycleway using part of the old train line now that we don’t need to run as many tracks. Really hoping for something like the Greenway!
This is fantastic news! Placing cycling and walking infrastructure near train lines is great because they’re often on flat and even terrain!
Reminds me of a little thought experiment I have in which could you close down the rail line from Wynyard to Chatswood? Replacing it with a light rail line and cycle track/walking path. It’s always interesting thinking about the possible benefits and issues with something like this.
