I don’t agree with him but it’s his decision. He stresses “social democratic party” several times in the video. I think Canadians see both the LPC and NDP as social democratic parties and this hasn’t been very beneficial for the NDP. I think the NDP has to regain its workers party bonafides to differentiate itself from the LPC and get its blue collar votes back from the CPC.
I have a feeling that this leadership election would be less about established figures’ endorsements and more about people and people orgs choosing someone who would best represent them. The party doesn’t hold a position of power to be preserved so I think the strategy of “steady hand” is likely a losing one.
Speaking of which, get your membership so you can vote in the upcoming election. These sorts of elections are arguably more important than the general elections. This is how the general election choices are determined. If you’ve said to yourself “these choices suck” while at the ballot box, this is how you make them suck less. Think how much difference electing Carney as LPC leader made to PP’s fortunes. This is one of those. It costs $25 or $5 if unemployed.
Anyone who thinks of the LPC as a social democratic party is nuts imo. You’ve done a great job of convincing me to become a member and vote in the NDP leadership race. Thanks! :)
Glad! Pass the message if there’s amenable folks around you if you can.
