Serious question, has “anonymous” been on the right side of history, ever? I know the shtick is supposed to be that they’re not a centralized organization, so I guess they could host a myriad of ideologies, but since finding my way to anti-imperialist and communism, I’ve never heard of anything associated with anonymous that sounds coherently anti-imperialist, let alone in support of socialist projects specifically. They just seem vaguely anti-authority.

I think it’s become clear now that they’re some type of feds. It’s no secret the cybersecurity field is full of them, with intelligence agencies (FBI and CIA in the US but their homologues in other countries too) recruiting from conferences etc, and even going to speak to them without talking about their fed involvement. All the hackers of old who eventually became feds too (even if on a freelance basis) after they served time in prison. They prefer to have these hackers for themselves rather than leave them as loose cannons.

edit - oh yeah and the recent 4chan leaks that showed mods with a .gov email lol, though I don’t know how much of that is actually true. Be careful what you read online etc etc.
