I dunno if 10 years on the registry is as light as the headline makes it seem. It’s a bit more than a slap on the wrist, even without the other requirements of the sentence.

Frankly, it isn’t a case where jail time is the appropriate response. Mandatory treatment, supervision, registration, that’s right where out should be for this instance. She’s not likely to be a threat to other kids, so sentencing needs to be focused on ensuring that rather than arbitrary punishment.

I agree, 10 years is pretty significant, and being on the register seriously damages your life. Prison isn’t the only punishment you can get or indeed the worst one.

I swear to God that comment’s section is a fucking nightmare. My God the amount of people calling the boy gay, saying that he’s fucked in the head, talking about how “all boys love being molested”. I don’t even know what to say.

This is why male victims of sexual violence do not speak out. This child talks about how he attempted to end his life after the attack, how being molested has traumatized him and ruined his life. And there are seemingly hoards of grown adult men ready to shame him and threaten him with violence and dismiss his experiences. Absolutely horrifying.
