Have you ever burnt tea (to dust from liquid and melted kettle handle in the process) while reheating it?
'tis but one of my life’s achievements

Looks good enough to me and besides, you may decide to paint it with some paint that applies a relatively thick coat, which would end up filling those tiny gaps anyway. Anywho, keep going good work!
Never let perfection stand in the way of good.

53·5 days agoAnd AFAIK you can’t just get a job at Costco anymore (unless it’s something very specific that requires certain education /skill?), you have to work 1-2 years as contractor and hope to get an offer.
If you know what’s worth getting and what isn’t at Costco, membership is still a good deal and if you know your spend, even just 3k a year, it’s worth being executive member over regular, as you get it back (60+) in cashback, but they are enshittifying at breakneck speed.

Mmmmm nice slice of sourdough with duck fat (goose fat may also do, but duck is better) and onions with a pinch of salt 🤤

14·7 days agoBeing good at some computer games (not just flight simulators) is helpful in getting through the recruitment process. I’d say a mix of having good orientation and implementing and executing a strategy is required at the very least (and sticking to it, which I didn’t do lol), which you definitely get/practice in games.
However the actual training process can cut those numbers dramatically, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they ignored obvious red flags with some of these ‘gamers’ just to pump those numbers up.
Anyone else who remembers this better from “Cow &chicken” correct me, but this is what I recall “dad” exclaiming:
“Well, shave my legs and call me grandpa”

Canada@lemmy.ca•Bail reform bill targeting violent and repeat offenders coming next week: Carney

What a Dyck
Ikwym …I only checked as I was writing my original response and was disappointed myself.
They did open one during COVID actually IIRC, we went there at the time since everything was always empty but the choice of products (at the time) was poor. No idea what it’s like now, it’s kinda out of the way of any route we take to get anywhere so generally not worth a stop.
Good shout. I do know Lowa are, or at least some models(?), made in central Europe. I did like some design from them but it was seemingly impossible to find in lower mainland BC to try back then.
It’s been a while since I looked myself (not using the ones I bought all that often so they look almost new), but I don’t recall coming across any Canadian ones unfortunately.
At first I thought, Arcteryx has been doing some hiking shoes/boots, but they haven’t been Canadian owned for over 2 decades and I found them a bit too gimmicky personally.
As for what to look for, you need to realize what you find comfortable. For example I need arch support and wider toebox. You’re gonna be wearing them for extended periods of time and you don’t want blisters/discomfort.
I ended up trying a bunch in various shops and ordering a pair of Danners (not Canadian) online from a place where I could do free return, in case they didn’t fit. It was the closest to my need, but I still had to get additional insoles for arch support.
Once you think you got it figured out, do yourself a favour and wear them at home for a few days, and see if anything is rubbing etc. “Breaking shoes in” is bollocks, mine were leather and didn’t require any breaking in.
Hope that helps at least a little bit

Vancouver@lemmy.ca•Where to watch the night sky in and around Metro Vancouver
0·1 year agoMeh suggestions, find a farmland nearby where you live and see if there are any rivers with dykes and go for a stroll there. The parking along them isn’t usually too big though.
As an example you can lookup Harris road bridge or Neaves road in Pitt Meadows on the map as there several spots along to go stargazing/observe meteor shower.
Word or warning, I am not sure how much I can recommend those two specifically anymore as they did get very busy last summer during peak…unless you come out before nautical/astronomical twilight.
