If they’re allowed to do it, so will others who have signed NPT, like Iran. To be fair, Russia seems to have violated the Budapest Memorandum so Ukraine should at least be allowed to have nuclear weapons, by maybe not develop their own.
Reddit sucks

Just gotta keep educating people about it, especially during times like this. A lot of people in power don’t want it, but some opposition is also cost related.

They’re doing the same with rising wages. You can’t win unless you make laws against it, but that’s anti-capitalist. The people literally have the power. Don’t buy things and force them to lower prices.
Finally. Everybody on Lemmy has been sucking donkey dick so hard. They’re not gonna save you. Need to start looking elsewhere or force their hand. RCV will help do that.
You’re right. Most people will still vote for the primary candidates, but in an election like this past one where we could have had Harris and a white man on the Dem ticket, RCV could have swung the vote blue.
And no, alone it will not fix the problems, but it’s a key change. Yall have around 20% of offices held by third party or independent. US has none or close to none.
Yup. People in power don’t want it. The public needs to be educated, and maybe this past election will be a future motivator to vote for RCV, or Star.
He doesn’t have the level of power and support everybody is afraid of him having. There are still Republicans who will vote against him. Checks and balances will still work. He will not become Hitler.
Even if he did, not gonna happen.
Not gonna happen. Supreme Court wouldn’t allow it as the constitution stands, and lots of republicans would be against it. Not all Republicans are far right lunatics. There have been a number of left-leaning votes made by Republicans in Senate or House like keeping Obamacare.
Yeah it’s not popular among people with power, republicans AND democrats.
No, even with Stein and Oliver votes she would have lost. She lost really badly, unfortunately. She needed ~4M more votes and all the other votes other than Trump or Harris only totaled to around 2M.
I don’t think we have to worry about never being able to vote again. I do think we have to worry about how the current election process does not actually represent the people’s voices regardless of which of the two reigning parties is in power.
Reading a lot into that. He didn’t mean it literally and even if he did he says a lot of things he can’t promise
Yeah we’re such a young nation. We’re destined to experience the changes that other nations have.
The other option is to dilute swing states with an influx of liberals, but doesn’t solve the problem of half the country feeling unrepresented.
Some counties in Oregon use RCV or Star for some elections. It’s progress.
But I agree, nobody wants to love power on either side so there’s no support. Dems are not our saviors. Up to the people.
Another solution would be liberals leaving their bubbles and moving to swing states.
Why not voting at national level again?
Even though republicans have majority in Senate and House, that doesn’t mean the majority of either is in favor of banning abortion at the federal level, and the fact these states are passing laws in favor of abortion rights shows that many republican politicians either feel the same or are seeing that it’s politically advantageous to be in favor.
I do think power to the states is a slippery slope towards federal ban.
If Iran starts making nuclear weapons? We’ve done other things like sanctions in the past that seemingly worked. If they just keep doing it then that’s bigger than a U.S. problem.
