Android@lemdro.id•How Android handles Hi-Res audio: An audiophile's guide to the best soundEnglish
13·4 days ago"considering that 16-bit, 48kHz exceeds the threshold of human hearing even for “golden ears,”
Um, no it doesn’t. 16-Bit dynamic range is 96 decibels, 24-bit is 144 decibels. 96 cuts off quite a bit of an average person’s hearing range. A/B a 16 and 24 bit recording and you can hear it easily over even modest headphones.

303·4 days agoHey man, let’s take some poorly written beat poetry and put it over mediocre guitar compositions. Then we can take a talented keyboardist but make him play the shittiest sounding electric organ. And we can make sure the recording makes it all sound like a cat and some tin cans in a dryer.

12·5 days agoPhillip Seymour Hoffman. He can come back and do anything at any time. He had so much more to give and so much more to receive. God damn shame.
I’d love to see Gilda Radner come back for Weekend Update.
Annie Wersching should still be playing the Borg queen.

0·15 days agoEasily torrented.
I watched it recently and the film didn’t age well in the current social climate. Good script, great cast, but the story is about a “magic pill” that will make old people young again. That in itself is not a bad thing, but the end of the movie sees all the old people making the selfish decision to leave their loved ones for their own eternal bliss. I know it was supposed to be a metaphor for death and heaven and such, but now it just looks like Me Generation, head in the sand, fuck you I got mine, Boomerism.
Wilford Brimley’s grandson pleads for him not to go and tries to stow away on the heaven boat. And then Brimley’s like “nope, I choose to never see you again, go fishing by yourself.” If I was a grandpa, every moment with my grandson would be worth giving up an alien immortal orgy. Geez.

I might be out of the loop - is this a known fascist, a public figure whose politics we know?
Either way, he is a Master Sargent in the US Marine Corp. He took an oath to defend the Constitution and not a single person or party. His power is bestowed by the people he is sworn to serve. If he is wearing that uniform with honor, that uniform is most definitely anti-fascist.

Global News@lemmy.zip•German industrial output falls to 2005 levels as auto sector cratersEnglish
1·26 days agoThanks to everyone who posts the archive link!
The why from the article: "According to the German statistical office, the “sharp decline” in car production was in part caused by the later timing this year of annual closures at car plants for holidays, as well as production changeover.
But a profit warning by German carmaker BMW late on Tuesday was the latest reminder of the industry’s structural challenges as it struggles with the transition to battery cars, weak sales in China, competition from Chinese rivals and US import duties.
Germany’s economy has been stuck in stagnation for more than three years."

That’s why I didn’t mention the sample rate. You aren’t going to get really anything back increasing to 96 khz. But I promise you increasing the bit depth leads to a noticeable change in the perception of the recording. You’re not going to get anything from modern pop since it’s compressed to hell and back, but find a good recording of an album you’ve listened to a lot and find some decent, wired headphones and try an A/B of a 16 and 24 bit mix. You’ll see what I mean.
