depends… dual core “core 2 duo” struggles with 1080p youtube, while dual core i5-4xxx (laptop) which is dual core and ht works 1080p quite well
For browsing and text editing , spreadsheets , remote desktop they are still quite allright.
And even occasional game of Doom or Wolfenstein !
Sure. It can take 64GB of RAM and few fast SSD. It has PCI slots so you can upgrade it to multi port NIC or add SAS host controller to connect to DAC.
Just add a small UPS to keep power stable in case of electricity problems.
Samo on older CNC machines in our mechanical shop. Some very large horizontal lathes (we make and repair rolling mill gear on them) are relatively old but work really well. They still have Fanuc and Sinumerik control modules with CRT on them. And yes burn in is there , and very strong. Last time when CRT died , repair Maister just replaced it with generic 12" industrial LCD.
