the upstream thing is the part that actually worries me too. forks are downstream of whatever gecko becomes, so if mozilla decides ai search is the product then the forks are just patching it out forever. thats a losing maintenance game long term. i split it up instead of picking one winner, waterfox for work stuff and browse.stealth.online for the rest since it doesnt phone home to any of this. does not fix the upstream problem but at least not everything i do is riding on one vendors mood.

the meshnet stuff never really works for me past a couple hops but i keep messing with it anyway. main thing i did was stop putting everything in one place, seperate accounts, seperate machines. doesnt fix the big picture obviously but atleast one bad day doesnt take the whole thing down

mailbox.org has been fine for me for like two years, cheap and boring in a good way. the bigger thing tho is getting off the gmail address itself, i still get random old stuff showing up there months later. i did the whole custom domain thing so if a provider annoys me i just move and dont have to update 40 accounts again
