  • I’m going to disagree here. We do regulate some of those things, there’s plenty of things that are illegal on the internet and many governments including the US will hold you accountable for hosting illegal content. Gun makers have been sued on multiple occasions because of their unsafe practices. Car manufacturers are responsible for selling vehicles that meet minimum safety standards

The creator of a tool should have some level of responsibility for it, even if someone else utilizes their creation nefariously. I’m not saying Sam Altman should be sued for manslaughter when chatGPT tells someone to kill themselves (there’s plenty of other things I think he belongs in jail for, but I digress), I just think that being open source doesn’t absolve you of the responsibility of putting up guard rails. Not every invention deserves to see the light of day

  • I disagree, so this is probably a good post. I view your proposal as similar to the death penalty. If I knew with 100% certainty that this list would only ever be used for absolute shit heads who can’t behave then I’d be all for it. However, we live in the real world and there’s a lot of edge cases. There was a video of a little girl singing Disney songs over the speaker on a plane that was delayed recently, what if that little girl never got to fly again because her mom told her to do something for internet fame? Maybe a flight attendant goes on a power trip and antagonizes a customer into a moment that gets them banned. Airplanes are the most realistic way of travel in a lot of the world and by far the most realistic way to travel internationally and giving full control of that method of transportation to the whims of mega-corps feels very dangerous to me
