Why would it drain the battery? The screen would be off until you wake it, right.
My tests aren’t complete. It’s unclear if the the black and white, always on time display has a noticeable impact on battery so far. Will report with full results soon.
But if anyone is claiming that it causes “massive battery drain” or other superlative, my data says they’re wrong.

I’m very impressed with the camera.
I’m not a photographer or anything, but I can frame a shot, I can tell good picture from a bad one.
I also know that Fairphone isn’t targeting the photo-obsessed people. So I expected the FP5 cam to be decent at best.
But instead, I find it difficult to take a bad picture. Hell, the camera sees better than my eyes. With the lights off, and only the display of my laptop and the street lighting from outside entering the window, I get color picture of my living room. With the red carpet on the floor, the pink poster on the wall, the green painting on the other wall. Amazing. I’m sure Apple and Samsung can do better, but still. Amazing.
Coming from FP3, I found myself with a problem.
The 5 has a fingerprint reader in the power button. On top of that, it has face recognition. This means that, as soon as I wake up the screen, it unlocks.
But what if I only want to check the time? I used to wake up the screen to check what time it was. The time was displayed huge on the lock screen. Once unlocked, the time is all tiny in the corner.
I found this: settings > display > Lock screen > Always show time
Now, the time shows up anytime I pick up the phone.
That’s the only tip I needed. Everything works fine and needs no attention. At least to me.
PS: Someone mentioned it drains the battery. You know what that means, right? Series of rigorous tests in the near future. I’ll be back with some results in a few days.
Paperless has improved my life by at least 12%. There’s a “before paperless” era in my life when there was a 20-40% chance I would be able to find a sheet of printed paper that the bureaucracy of my country thought was more important than Life itself.
Now, it’s a solid 100%.
Nextcloud has improved my life by 3% I’d say. It basically does the same as Google. But I fell 3% better overall to not be so incredibly dependent on Google. If google imploded today, I’d still feel it because of Google Play Services on Android. But that’s pretty much the only thing.

I think you’re asking if Fairphone’s firmware updates are open source and can be quickly adopted by other ROMs such as Lineage.
I don’t know the answer. Fairphone has other ROMs that it “supports”. So maybe not open source, maybe they send their updates to the peaple at /e/ with a NDA… But either way, could you clarify the question?
