  • there are more vacant homes that homeless people in my country and that fact is so incendiary to our sensibilities that it enshitifies things like google so; when you look up this fact; all of the results are going to lead you to explanations as to why it’s misleading and that there aren’t enough “appropriate” homes for homeless people.

all of the articles are hoping couch the unspoken classism divisions as “nuanced arguments” so when they say that there aren’t enough “appropriate” homes for homeless people; it’s dog-whistle-implying that homeless people don’t deserve the same desirable homes that can earn profit for the capitalists and that it’s the state’s responsibility to “deal” with them; amongst other dog whistles.

  • i think that all of the brics members want to see an alternative to the dollar dominancy; but they’re afraid of pissing off the americans so they still do the american’s bidding when asked, but support brics as much as they can when not asked to otherwise.

it’s sort of like how americans keep voting for the lesser evil, but it keeps getting worse either way. like american voters, the brics members are being forced to make decisions by american interests and those decisions guarantee that brics will never become a viable alternative anytime soon.

  • you and duckduckgo just taught me that “american indoctrination” is the wrong descriptor since it’s already a well known phrase that describes something else; i used like i used my dnc/democrat distinction, it was my own personal shorthand until now.

what i named “american indoctrination” (as of 30 minutes or so ago) described my impression of modern day zeitgeist of the american middle-to-upper middle class. those two classes mostly share similar material conditions and usually do not have social relations with anyone outside of those two sub-classes. (they also tend to ostracize the lower middle class and working poor). the french used to call them petite bourgeoisie and most are not by american standards but they unquestionably are so by global south and empirical periphery standards; they’re also the democrat’s most loyal voters and most of the ones in that latter upper-middle-class category are republicans.

  • during the hiv/aids crisis; people who had spare bedrooms; or could afford to cook extra meals; or took it upon themselves to distribute those extra meals; or volunteer basic healthcare services for free (ie candy stripers); etc. would put up “help offered” posters in gay safe spaces with contact information on them. the posters where mostly hand made back then, but i’ve seen a more modern day version of it with home printers and the bottom section of the paper scored off so that people can rip off and take the contact information with them and i’ve seen a newer version of that with the mutual aid community in hexbear: https://hexbear.net/c/mutual_aid

any leftist safe space, both virtual and real. will have something like this; seek them out and you can ask someone in person what you can do to help that’s tailored to you circumstances. (and to set your expectations: it’s probably going to suck a lot; that’s why they need the help)

  • i agree that theory matters and that the dnc cannot be changed.

i use “democrats” to distinguish the people from from the dnc and i’ve learned that democrats mostly align with all leftists views but american indoctrination prevents them from learning and that’s my biggest source of anxiety.

i also agree that you can’t bring democrats to where they need to be because “you can bring a horse to water but you can’t make it drink” is true and this is one of those hurdles that add to the anxiety; there doesn’t seem to be a way around it since it requires appeals to reason in a reality that uses pleasure, emotion, and social ostracization to combat that reasoning.

  • the last time i was in a position like yours i almost learned the hard way to make documentation to protect yourself.

the next time you and your boss have a conversation on security things like that windows 7 computer; tell him that you’re going to send an email at the end of the conversation restating what he told you to do; then send that email; and then use your smartphone to take a picture of the email. (time stamps are important so make sure that the phone’s picture metadata is enabled and they’re usually on by default or make sure that the picture includes something with the date & time on it like a calendar on your computer).

do this for anything security related like passwords or administrator access. if you have a good boss, they’ll realize that you feel like you need to protect yourself and they’ll start making changes.

  • I think I can see the confused part; but I don’t get mean.

My comment was an overall anecdotal estimation of my experiences of using windows and Linux on the same laptop. I noticed that the battery life while using Linux was significantly shorter than using windows on the same laptop. My battery life experience w my first core boot laptop seems to be on par w my windows laptop.

Also I get mean a lot; I tend to commit a lot of faux pas and people are usually too angry w me to let me understand what I said/did. I have no idea what I did for the label this time around as well and I hope you’ll tell me.

  • in latin america they were nice to the white passing americans like me that i was traveling with at the time and not so much to me because my words said that i was was sorry, but things like my facial expression; or body language; or intonation said otherwise and i can’t imagine how similar situations would work out if i didn’t even have the words.

also that and other related experiences over the decades teaches me that the benefit of the doubt comes rare once i’ve committed that faux pas and the local version of “sorry” by itself doesn’t work well if they’re angry about the perceived transgression.
