Admin of LemmyNZ and PieFedNZ. @Dave@piefed.nz and @Hal@piefed.nz are also me.

Hell, what about 1 party consent where the person doesn’t know their watch is recording?

This is my understanding. WhatsApp took off at a time and in places where SMS was expensive. Because WhatsApp used data, they could keep data usage low and allow people to message almost for free.
Oh damn, I hope the blast radius wasn’t too wide?
I’m currently in government where we aren’t allowed to run our own stuff, everything new has to be cloud services.
All good! Thought I should mention I got the cloudflare this sorted too, it was just 1am brain failing me. So we are fully off Cloudflare now, a milestone I know some people will be happy to hear.
Yeah true. Can’t give you a list to pick from I guess haha, just annoying that I know the countries but sometimes can’t spell them!

Yeah I guess they have limited resources, and their aim is to have the older games work on modern PCs. Not sure when you were doing this but I can absolutely understand that Windows 7 compatibility isn’t a focus for them in 2026 since MS support ended in 2023.

A significant number of games released before 2005 had digital releases later. It’s basically GOGs whole thing.

Damn I didn’t realise it was timed. Trying to do all that typing on mobile was a bit slow, I only got to 80 before running out of time, and still hadn’t done Europe and only started on Africa.
A bit rough they make you spell them all!

I’m an undecided voter, gonna try to sell them to me? What do you like about those two in particular?

Voting happens here: https://www.birdoftheyear.org.nz/#voting
Anyone got a favourite or one they want to campaign for, try to pull in some extra votes?
did the migration go smoothly?
We’re on the new server! Which I guess make it a success 😅
It did take hours longer than expected. Had the database load killed by docker when it used too much memory and had to start again (this was my fault, I had a resource cap on the container that I didn’t remove before trying to do such a big job). Then it still took over 2 hours just to load the database. By this time is was just after 12am.
Next I had to do the pictrs database (that manages the images), which is a lot smaller. Was starting lemmy about 12:20am. But it didn’t work. Lemmy started fine, but would couldn’t access it.
Another 45 mins of troubleshooting, then @MadPsyentist@lemmy.nz spotted a giant clue and then we worked out it was a conflict and got it sorted, Lemmy came up about 1:10am.
Complicating things was that I had tried moving DNS name servers but that didn’t go well. We are currently on Cloudflare’s DNS for that, I’ll try again as soon as I can work out what the issue was. It’s the last thing needed to get us fully off Cloudflare.
I live in a country with free healthcare and private health insurance. I even have private health insurance. But I have it through a nun-profit organisation that pays out ninety-something cents in claims for every dollar of premiums paid. So I’m ok with it.

Haha I was also a little surprised. But I’ve also seen unfunded drugs and that price isn’t unusual. But surely MDMA isn’t under patent.
I guess it’s because it cost these two docs a fortune to get it approved?

Haha well it works on my phone but I couldn’t shake my laptop enough to create the effect.
Yes but this depends significantly on where you live.
Sure. Any driving you do increases your risk of death. But it’s likely you need to drive for other reasons that reduce your risk of death (like buying food).
Drinking is different because no one needs to drink.

Yeah here we are starting to implement average speed cameras. Instead of cameras at one point that catch people who might momentarily be going over the speed limit, they put one at each end of a stretch of road (typically a section of road without many intersections, over a km or a few, so not city streets), and ticket you if your average is much over the limit.
This isn’t the US so we aren’t talking flocks, we have privacy laws so while they track plates, I think I read somewhere they are hashed for matching and then deleted after a short period of time (we can only keep personal information for the time needed to use it for the purpose it was collected).
Speed cameras definitely reduce speeds, and we’ve recently started signposting the hell out of them because after all the intend is the lower speed not revenue collection (the government agency managing them doesn’t keep the money, specially to avoid this).
Wow, after the move to messaging apps pretty much any general phone plan here has free unlimited SMS, the different plans are about the data included. Even the $8NZD ($4.60USD) per month 150MB data plan comes with unlimited SMS.
