Ah sweet!
Yeah, Rescuezilla is the “non-keyboard” and “non-mouse” solution.
Battle.net or Steam?
Have you worked with HDR before? Did you calibrate it?
Any means to test it will ruin the surprise. You would have to do a full “set up” including logging into Steam to do anything of real value.
As u/Standard-Rip-6154 said … part of the magic is opening the box … breaking the Valve seal on the case … all that jazz.
Valve will handle any issues. I would, however, offer one recommendation - get the OLED 1TB (non-LE) edition. I know you want to be the top shelf wife and get him the “biggest and the best” but the differences are minimal AND it seems (based on the discussions here) that the LE has the BOE screen and has been far more likely to have dead pixels.
I originally wanted LE - but I went with the non-LE 1TB and I’m still tickled to death.
Good luck with everything!
Nope. No easier way. Clone or Transplant.

EmuDeck and all its support files can be transferred fairly easily.

This will take care of you.
This is what I do.
I don’t like Remote Play - and Sunshine is a pain to set up (IMHO). This solution is what I use and like ALL streaming game solutions - it largely depends on your INTERNAL network configuration, quality and infrastructure.
I write this up more here:
Install the launcher as a non-steam game?
TD;DR: If you have a known, specific use case for these products? Use them.
If you don’t? I do not consider them a worthy “just install’em on every new Deck” or “every factory reset”.
Everything you do to your Deck that is not “vanilla” is questionable when things go wrong. When you come asking for help, we don’t know what things you have done to your Deck and you may forget to tell us.
Upgrade your laptop.
Essentially you mount your Deck locations as windows drive letters. Your deck appears just like any other drive on your PC.

Had something similar.
The solution is to offload the card, reformat it with the Deck, and move everything back on. 100% guaranteed to work (if your card doesn’t have a hardware issue).
Yes. You can either clone or image the drive - then clone or restore the image to the new Deck.
Make darn sure your OG Deck is on STABLE with 3.5.5 so there are no hiccups.
You’ll need to wait for the plugin to get updated. If it is possible.
I’m hoping for a new system image before I get my OLED. That one is aged AF.
Retrieve the saves from Steam Cloud.
And if you want to know what ACTUALLY happened? Here is some education.
Disclaimer - both are my videos.
Drive swap, image the internal SDD and restore to the new drive …
Drive swap is the easiest. EmuDeck has a tool now for migrating THAT stuff.
Strange. I’ll make a note …
