I was off the grid without internet for the past week, and I come back online to find out that the Third Intifada may have started. It’s one of those weeks Lenin told us about. Here’s hoping this is the beginning of something really meaningful to Palestinian freedom.

Isn’t something like 80% of youtube’s viewer base under the age of 18? I swear you can really tell by what’s being written in comment sections. Especially the cringe inducing ones we see here in SRS. These aren’t fully formed adults with actual insight into anything.

Why do the rest of us measure our current year based on the birth of a religious figure who may or may not have existed, who has little to no connection to our culture or society? It’s one of the curious things about how we keep time in the rest of the world.

I see this being said a lot but this is not true. There are a lot of communists in India, true, but this is just a consequence of the massive population. In relation to all the other political parties and groups, they account for barely 1% of the political power in the country.

Does Chinese folk religion count as paganism? It’s the belief in several gods, or a pantheon, that constitutes a pagan religion. Its confusing what counts and doesn’t, but It’s likely because “paganism” is a European term which only really fits for their dichotomy of “one god versus many gods”.

I am fairly certain when they say Paganism they were talking specifically about European paganism, such as in old Norse and German culture.

funny enough it’s mainly the French influence that did this to English, it was pronounced a lot more like the way its spelled before that.

Have had recent interactions with some and they tend to be pretty backward in their views on queer people, buying into the idea of it being part of some western agenda to “subvert” culture in the global south.

Neither was Iraq though. Yet they managed to destroy it nonetheless. Either way It’s more complex than the size of the countries involved, especially in modern warfare.

No doubt, just pointing out that:

I suppose it depends on what they’re fighting for. If losing means an existential threat, then I’d imagine quite a lot would want to join up, since it would be a necessity. Winning on the other hand doesn’t really achieve much for the average westerner, only the ruling class.

I think the implication is that the west has actively painted Russia as weak and “losing” against Ukraine, and now are faced with the problem of having to motivate people into joining up to go and fight. Why would one sign up to go to a war that their side is already supposedly winning?
