  • Had to try and log in so many times because of the servers crashing that my Steam account locked out and had to wait 1hr before I could successfully make my purchase…

TL;DR- Don’t use the Steam App for purchases like this when the server is overloaded. And always use a method of payment you know won’t be an issue at checkout.

    ------------------

I’m glad that I only wanted the 512gb OLED because my god… I must have made 2 big mistakes with this purchase:

    • Trying to buy it on a card that I haven’t used in a year. I called my bank beforehand to make sure it was activated. But didn’t stop them from assuming it was a stolen card… I tried it 3 times and was notified that it declined and was blocked. Had to call my bank back to unblock it and approve the purchase, all while the time was ticking…
    • Using the Steam App. When it came to finally getting through, Valve kept asking me to verify my log in with the authenticator and after about 15 times of doing it in a row while trying to confirm my purchase… I got locked out for “too many attempts to log in”. So had to wait 30 min… where I was able to finally complete the purchase through my phone’s web browser.

Eventually, after I could log in… 45 min after purchases opened up… I decided to try and do it on my mobile web browser and force it to use the browser instead of auto-opening my phone’s Steam app… which in turn, worked instantly! But before doing that, I tried at least 2-3 more times with the Steam app since I had it up and it kept asking me to verify my login with authentication from the Steam app, which would only first verify me… and then bring me right back to log in screen- rinse and repeating the same process over and over again. This is what ultimately caused me to lock out my account.

I ended up successfully making my 512gb OLED purchase at 1:06pm (my email confirmation), so an hour and 6 min past the times opened up- and all because my card declined and got blocked and also because I used the Steam app. I would have successfully made it through the first time if my card decline, at around 23min after sales opened up. However, I wasn’t worried about the 512gb selling out and I didn’t care about the LE. I’m going to be changing the shell to mime when 3rd party companies update their shell replacements for the OLED anyway.

But phew, what a ride! Very reminicent of the Steam servers when I bought my LCD model… Now time to sell my current 512gb LCD and miss my delivery because I’ll likely be out of town for Thanksgiving when it arrives at my door! Yay!
