Global News@lemmy.zip•French far right wants to reopen brothels and put sex workers in chargeEnglish
4·7 months agoThe article quotes a lady from a “sex worker support group” that turns out to be a SWERF organization:
L’Amicale du Nid firmly supports the belief that prostitution is intrinsically incompatible with human dignity and equality between men and women; the human body cannot be construed as an object or piece of merchandise. It refuses to liken it to a profession and wishes to build its action along consistent abolitionist lines, advocating for the ban of any form of sexual intercourse for payment
It goes on about non-penalisation of sex workers but last I checked, a total ban wasn’t what actual sex workers wanted.
I don’t know, this just might be a broken-clock kind of thing. Probably for the worst possible reasons, though, if I had to guess.

13·1 year agoI could quibble over the circumstances (and, unfortunately, likely outcomes in the near future), or argue about your dig at the USSR, but honestly I’m more inclined to cede the point on this. I don’t really have anything against anarchists or anarchism; I was mostly just giving a flippant answer to that other commenter, who was being a smug jerk.

27·1 year agoIn my ideal postrevolutionary society, there would be special political/economic zones where anarchists could live and try to build a model for the society of the future, sheltered from external threats by the communist state. I don’t think anarchists and MLs necessarily need to be at odds.

273·1 year agoLook, I’m not trying to justify everything the Bolsheviks did during the Russian Civil War. I don’t know enough of the history to make a judgment call on most of that stuff. So I’m going to leave the question of morality entirely aside on this one.
But I don’t think you can call your revolution successful if, within a few years, some external force is able to show up, wreck everything you were doing, and take over. It’s not enough to just temporarily wrest control away and set up your committees and your resource distribution system and declare victory. You have to establish long-term security and stability. If you don’t, you haven’t had a successful revolution.

0·1 year agoI can’t believe we are having to rehash the Kautsky debate in the year 2025
The article was published in 2019 (rather notably prior to the ratfucking of Bernie 2020, which shifted this very debate dramatically), so maybe we aren’t?
