According to FediDB there has been a 1.7% growth this month. Meaning 244,051 new accounts have been created on fediverse on the past 30days. Almost 250thousand people in a month. I’m sure this is completely coincidental

I joined Matrix today, It’s been 4-5 hours, I’ve seen multiple other users joining aswell, asking for what client is the best one or how to do X. For sure a lil exodus is happening.

someone on matrix told to try sable, its installing rn, thanks for the suggestion!

Element didn’t run properly for me, and Cinny sometimes crashes, but the worst is that i can’t change the size of the UI, so tiling it with my other 3 windows sucks cause Cinny takes a ton of space, I’ll try a few more

safest- id say, I don’t think anything is 100% safe, like on pc i use linux and I feel that’s safer than the old ass Iphone I use. Like on a phone they can decide tomorrow “oh btw we are gonna scan your entire phone now just because or record your screen or whatever” while on linux I feel that’s not a thing.

mhmm! It’s awesome, and not only like open-minded/queer but a lil anti-establisment too, they had the usual ideas and discourse common in the open source space, also yea being queer myself too, I can’t help but notice tech it really open to differences like that, another reason to like it!

Same country, but yea you shouldn’t believe me at all without proof, not implying you should either, but yeah are dope people, loved the way he talked about doing consulting, “eh, listen here, a job is just a means to an end, so you gotta try and work as little as possible, I do have a private office space I rent that I go to a few times a week, but I try not to if I can help it, and with big companies you always overbill when it comes to time, they don’t really know how much time anything takes anyways smirk, and then I get time back to do whatever I feel like actually working on.” And his gf at the time (a trans girl) was also wicked smart, oh, they also liked going to vegas every so often (I don’t even know if they are still together tho, its been a long time and I didn’t keep in touch at all)

It’s just a fun fact, not something for defamation, to win internet clout or anything like that (that’s why I don’t wanna get into too much detail) Also I don’t think the guy i met did consultation regarding stocks, he did consultation with his like programming skills and stuff, the stock thing is just something he showed me he and his gf liked doing for fun on the side (can’t remember but might’ve been related to something like daytrading more than a long term 10-15 year set and forget investment) But just to reiterate, great people at least from the little time i hanged out with them they seemed super chill.

I don’t know much about security, but I avoided using Lemmy on my phone for example, is it safe to use something like matrix on your phone?

What do you get out of a rolling release? I get that you get newer stuff faster, but what does that do for your day to day use?

anecdotal experience tells me people who use arch break their system way more than people who use mint, not exactly sure why that happens
Can’t believe you can get something like that out of a few pencils

Well if you are familiar with servers I’d can’t stop myself from shilling the setup i use, you install mint, then you set up i3 as the window manager, 500mb of ram on idle, I set it up in a 4gb ram laptop and runs beautifully, stable and never breaks too.

I use a handful of reddits, usually a few of those lewd ones for like hooking over over voice chat and stuff, kinda fun for that ig, but like as you said, most people there are kinda dumb, most conversations I have there are bland, boring, and end in a day or two at most with ghosting. (met a few cool people tho, its just like… 5% of all the ones I talk to)

I kinda am to be honest, best to find out before any personal info was shared than after!

I have nothing on there that’s identifiable other than my current age and country, then the rest is just hobbies or weird reddits I’m in, nothing that can be traced back to me, but still, I’m kinda pissed it’s not more clear that it works like this. Like you have a “hide posts and comments” toggle that seems to serve absolutely no purpose.

Was pretty naive of me, but outside of that, don’t you think it’s a little scummy that they put in “X likes to keep their posts hidden, but check out their stats to learn more about them.”? And even here where it says you content is visible in communities “Profile curation only applies to your profile and your content stays visible in communities. Mods of communities you participate in and redditors whose profile posts you engage with can still see your full profile for moderation.”
It’s written in such a way that makes you think “okay if I post somewhere my post will be seen by people from that community or admins” not “your content will be discoverable by anyone who types in your username on reddit without even needing to log in, and also on google”
Like if you can just do that, what even is the point of having a toggle for your posts and comments to be hidden? For people to go through the inconvenience of typing for 4 seconds in the search up top? I think it’s purposely deceitful.

Yes but one thing is for people to see what you are putting in, which is not that bad unless you are putting personal info in, the one im more concerned about is your posts being tied to you as a person, like if im random4673 in a platform and people read I’m into some weird niche bdsm stuff I don’t care at all, thing is if that can be traced back to you.
I mean I was waiting to see how shitty the apple tv neuromancer adaptation would be next year, but at this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up pushing random Timmys into becoming techies and netrunners. Life imitates art I guess.
