Regular recycling isn’t even an option where I live. You can literally only get a regular trash container. Sticks/leaves etc they’ll take if you bring it to a center but there’s no collection for that either.

We’re about to be on the market for a new thermostat so this post is just in time. My husband got us a nest and apparently after 10 years they just nope out. Not because it breaks per say but because after 10 years it just shuts down no matter what “expires”. Might consider the honeywell

Seen a lot of men like this with the “ideals” except they have a good job and think it’s a crowning achievement. They also often want their wives to have good jobs and to have separate accounts and expenses? So they want a perfect, pretty, petite wife who’s smart, has a great job, but also cooks, cleans, takes care of the house, and their children. What do they bring to the table? Not the looks, money or house help. Their ✨shining personality ✨? Don’t worry ladies this alpha nice guy’s on the market & just around the corner, lucky you!

politics @lemmy.world•Bernie Sanders accuses Harris of being 'influenced' by billionaires in 2024 raceEnglish
25·3 months agoThis seems to be how the majority of Democrats in office are and they’ll never see themselves as wrong… They just point at Trump and say he’s what’s wrong. And yeah they’re not wrong about that but that doesn’t make them right or good either. You get stuck running for a bad candidate or a downright evil candidate. And yeah I voted for Harris. I voted for Biden and Hilary too. Id vote for a literal log of shit on the floor before I voted for Trump, but that doesn’t mean I liked the Democratic candidates or that I’m super happy with party. This country isn’t set up to make third party candidates an option… But no…I don’t think the Democrats in office will every see themselves as a problem.

11·3 months agoI think you’re misunderstanding. He’s saying Republican states that hate welfare are usually the welfare states that need the most funding and then the only money they want to give back, it’s to ultra millionaire conservatives who parrot the welfare Queen rhetoric.

The anecdote my dad always told me was being smart is knowing it’s a one way street, being wise is looking both ways anyways

3·5 months agoThere are cost of living calculators that give very basic averages of areas. I can tell when I lived in NC I paid about 30$ for car insurance. But when I lived in Detroit MI I payed about 300$. Monthly. That was about 7-8 years ago. Apartments in my small little town in PA are going for about 1500-1800$ for a 1 bedroom apartment. For healthcare I pay about 200$ a week. That’s for a family of 3.

18·5 months agoThat’s a large portion of it yes. Don’t forget that 150k salary is before taxes. The cost of food has sky rocketed lately. Don’t forget transportation. If you live in a big city you might take a bus or Metro, but for most Americans there isn’t a good network so add gas, car insurance, and possibly a car payment if you don’t own. And if you have kids get ready for child care expenses, unless you have a stay at home parent… But then you only have one income. Rent, utilities, little glasses for Timmy, cell phone bills and those TV subscriptions you’re slowly sailing the high seas on as they nickel and dime you. It all adds up.
I just want to mention that PRK absolutely cuts something off… It actually cuts the most. LASIK cuts a little, requires very little healing, and leaves flaps from cutting into the eye. PRK cuts off the entire layer and doesn’t leave flaps… It requires way more healing but it’s recommended if you live a very mobile lifestyle like a profession skydive or swimmer etc since the flap could cause issues and mess you up. My husband got PRK in the military because of the “active” lifestyle and the military didn’t (or didn’t at the time) offer LASIK. I’ve been looking to get LASIK and my optometrist actually recommended me ICL. It’s a bit more complicated and expensive however I have very thin cornea layers and the Dr said I was really on the cusp of possibly have permanent dry eyes if I were to get LASIK. Considering it’s my eyeballs that I use to see I’m planning to get ICL because even if it’s more expensive… Eyeballs are important … You know? One other nice thing is in ICL the Dr cuts into the eye and then inserts a permanent lense under a layer of your cornea. So if your eyesight gets worse… They can re-cut… Take out the old lense… And insert one of a stronger prescription without having to cut more and more layers off. Either way my Dr said to wait because I was looking to have kids and the Dr said that having kids can actually permanently change your eyesight. I have an adorable 1yr old now and plan to have just one more… Then I will look to get it done. (Damn adorable kids) Just thought I’d mention that PRK does cut and a little more info for anyone wondering 👍

16·6 months agoThis is correct and something I learned about recently. The style of a lot of middle eastern type clothing is all very loose and baggy for both men and women, because of that, the color of the clothing doesn’t affect it’s heat intake. It’s thought that a lot of clothing styles came to be because of what was available to use to weave them. If I’m remembering correct, the desert areas had a lot of wool to work with. Wool is an insulator… So in order to wear it in that climate they wove it very loose with a lot of layers and baggyness. I’m not an expert on the matter though, so I might be mistaken
Back when Amazon first came out they were only doing books. They often had books other bookstores didn’t have or carry and they were packaged with care. Nowadays any book you get from Amazon is usually printed crappily, with pages stuck together, cut off, or not even cut. Then they throw it in a box without packing where it bounces around and gets bent up. Regular bookstores now have good online platforms and if they don’t have a book in store they can almost always order it. I know I’ll get a quality print that isn’t bent to crap. The only downside is occasionally they’ll stick stickers somewhere that you’re pretty sure the gods themselves super glued onto it.

I’m exactly the same, and it was always 2%. I was always a slow eater, I’d always be hoping and waiting for the moment my parents would leave the room for a min so I could run to the sink and pour it down the drain. I asked as an adult if they had ever realized I had been dumping it if they left and somehow they never suspected.
