A traveller in love with the chaos and wonder of life, and an interest in many things, particularly geo-politics. #socialjustice for all. #antiwar #antiimperialism . Those who blindly follow Western propaganda narratives are requested to stay away, as I prefer to deal with people of at least some intellect, even when we disagree. And please note, liking or boosting does NOT always signify agreement, but rather that the post is of interest.
@largess @ajsadauskas @fuck_cars @kim_harding Will someone please reincarnate Gough?
@appassionato@mastodon.social @bookstodon@a.gup.pe I am sure there is corruption in China - whether more or less than the West I don’t know. But I do know that China used some of its recent accumulation of wealth to benefit its poor, not its billionaires, and in such a manner that the whole society benefited. An excellent, successful initiative that Western Govts refuse to follow for some reason…https://thetricontinental.org/studies-1-socialist-construction/
@Kirilov@kolektiva.social @ymishory@tooot.im @appassionato@mastodon.social @bookstodon@a.gup.pe @palestine@a.gup.pe Ilan Pappe’s writing is certainly in the same ballpark. Perhaps you haven’t bothered reading his work? But back to the main point - the title of Khalid’s book reflects the very real history of Palestine. You may not like that, but that is fact.
@Kirilov@kolektiva.social @gimulnautti@mastodon.green @ymishory@tooot.im @appassionato@mastodon.social @palestine@a.gup.pe Read back over this thread - and especially your posts - and you will easily see where you are subjecting logic to irrational contortions.
@kinyutaka@mstdn.social @KarunaX@mastodon.world @ymishory@tooot.im @anantagd@ieji.de @appassionato@mastodon.social @bookstodon@a.gup.pe @palestine@a.gup.pe Most Israelis are secular. Ironic that a people who don’t believe in g-d believe he gave them someone else’s land. Down here in reality, we know it was the British who exceeded their mandate and “gave” Palestine to European Zionists, not g-d.
@ymishory @anantagd @appassionato @bookstodon @palestine There is no single answer. Probably the only viable solution is a single, multi-ethnic secular state. While I would prefer all the Zionists to be expelled, this is unlikely to happen, and we will just have to wait until all the European “Israelis” leave & return to Europe/US etc. I expect many will, just as the majority of racist South Africans left after disposing of that colonial state.
@ymishory @Kirilov @appassionato @bookstodon @palestine I think Khalid’s claims are not exceptional, but rather mainstream in academic (not populist) circles, given the numbers of other authors who propose a similar thesis. See eg Ilan Pappe, Schlomo Sand, Edward Said.
@Kirilov@kolektiva.social @gimulnautti@mastodon.green @ymishory@tooot.im @appassionato@mastodon.social @bookstodon@a.gup.pe @palestine@a.gup.pe Rubbish. Absolute rubbish. It seems you have been captured by a love for the rules of logic, but have (illogically) misapplied these.
@Kirilov@kolektiva.social @Alexandrad1@mas.to @gimulnautti@mastodon.green @ymishory@tooot.im @appassionato@mastodon.social @bookstodon@a.gup.pe @palestine@a.gup.pe Can I note that Khalid’s book is not offering “opinion”, but a thesis based in evidence. And I did not refer to Khalid so as to use an “influential figure” to support an argument. The argument is FROM Khalid’s work.
@ymishory @appassionato @bookstodon @palestine Those phrases suggest to me a certain narrative, one based in an anti-colonialist perspective, similar to what we see with examinations of other settler-colonial societies (South Africa, Australia etc). And yes, I agree, all historians are telling a story from a certain position. Mr Khalidi’s academic credentials suggest that the content will be somewhat rigorous.
@ymishory @appassionato @bookstodon @palestine The title is not skewed at all. The title and sub-titles are no more than a factual summary of the reality of Paslestine TBH.

This is the inevitable result of an electoral system that establishes the dominance of two similar parties (a #Uniparty ) allied with permission to accept huge amounts of money to these two parties but no-one else. We can see this with new electoral laws in Victoria, which are now being emulated in Canberra to hamstring Independents and minor parties. https://youtu.be/7FLqYpD6eYw?si=smGlZmiT2fsfuC1r
